NFL Betting Breakdown – Up Down and All Around the League in NFL Week 5 Recap
October 11, 2010
While the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers apparently have some problems that could keep both teams from contending for a conference title this season, no team in all of football has been more disappointing than the lowly Dallas Cowboys, a team that was also expected to be a top Super Bowl contender.
The Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals don’t look much like the AFC title contenders that most people thought they would be this season.

At the opposite end of the spectrum the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been two of the most pleasant surprises in the league this season while the Washington Redskins have been bolstered by the addition of Donovan McNabb.
This look at every Week 5 matchup (except Monday night) will give pro football gamblers some fun-filled insight as they get set for their Week 6 wagering.
Cardinals 23 Saints 20
If there was any doubt about whether or not that the Saints’ sluggish start was an aberration, this dismal loss should serve as a wake-up call for NFL betting enthusiasts when they wager on New Orleans.
The Cardinals have no where to go but up under rookie quarterback Max Hall. The loss dropped New Orleans to a dismal 1-4 ATS on the season, tied for worst in the league after five weeks.
Titans 34 Cowboys 27
Chris Johnson and Vince Young could possibly carry the Titans to a playoff berth while the Cowboys can kiss their postseason plans goodbye with one more loss.
Tennessee moved to 3-2 ATS in the win while dropping Dallas to a bankroll-breaking 1-3 ATS of you’ve been backing the Boys.
Colts 19 Chiefs 9
Even in a losing effort, the Chiefs showed me that they are now a legitimate threat to win the uninspiring AFC West as they played mostly fantastic football in limiting the Colts and Peyton Manning to just 19 points.
If Kansas City (3-1 ATS) can keep up its high level of defensive play, they will be a good ATS team to bet on all season.

Raiders 35 Chargers 27
Keep in mind that the San Diego Chargers are the biggest bunch of underachievers in the league NFL gamblers, now holding a title that belonged to the Raiders for the better part of the last decade. Both AFC West teams are 2-3 ATS heading into Week 6.
Bears 23 Panthers 6
The Bears ‘smash-mouthed’ their way to an ugly win that put pitiful quarterback play squarely in the spotlight in this affair. Chicago moved to 3-2 ATS while dropping Carolina to a value-packed 1-4 ATS as a team that NFL bettors can almost assuredly continue to wager against all season.
Buccaneers 24 Bengals 21
Would somebody please tell me what the hell has happened to Carson Palmer? Despite their contender status entering the 2010 regular season, the Bengals are anything but a legitimate contender.
The Buccaneers have as bright of a future of any rebuilding team in the league and their 3-1 ATS mark is tied for second-best in all of football at this point.
Lions 44 Rams 6
Speaking of glowing ATS records, Detroit is the only team in the league with a 4-1 ATS mark after five games. I told NFL gamblers last week that the Lions were the best undefeated team in the league, but I’ve gotta admit that I didn’t see this offensive explosion coming.
Giants 34 Texans 10
One week the Texans look like world-beaters and the next they look like a football version of the Bad News Bears. New York on the other had, has looked nothing short of phenomenal in each of the last two weeks. Both teams are 3-2 ATS right heading into Week 6.
Ravens 31 Broncos 17
The Ravens (3-2 ATS) man-handled the Broncos just as expected – and if their offense keeps putting points on the board – Baltimore could fulfill their status as the top favorite to win the AFC. The Broncos (2-3 ATS) still have a really good shot to challenge for the AFC West title at this point.
Falcons 20 Browns 10
Atlanta (3-2 ATS) looks like the best team in the NFC South this season and one that could very well surprise once the postseason rolls around if they continue playing at a high level defensively.
Jaguars 36 Bills 26
Maybe it’s me but I’m thinking Chan Gailey looks like an idiot for jettisoning Trent Edwards and replacing him with Ryan Fitzpatrick – and getting the exact same results after blaming Edwards for the team’s (1-4 ATS) lethargic play on offense earlier this season.
Jacksonville moved into a four-way tie in the suddenly parity-laden AFC South.
Redskins 16 Packers 13
Apparently, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure NFL betting buffs. After getting jettisoned from the Eagles, Donovan McNabb has found a new lease on life in Washington and the Skins are thanking their lucky stars they landed the six-time pro bowler.
Washington’s ninth-ranked scoring defense has helped them get off to a respectable 3-2 ATS start so far.
Eagles 27 49ers 24
Speaking of the Eagles, while it’s nice that Philadelphia got a win in this contest, I’m still trying to figure out what made Andy Reid ever think that Kevin Kolb was a franchise quarterback?
The young signal-caller looks mostly mediocre and had mediocre decision-making if you ask me. Despite their winning SU record, Philadelphia is just 2-3 ATS after five games, just like Frisco.
