NFL Betting Breakdown – What Bettors Need to Know After First Week of NFL Action
September 14, 2010
The Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs all pulled off surprising upsets over their favored Week 1 opponents, likely throwing a multitude of NFL bettors for a loop in the process.
Never fear pro football gamblers!
Despite the slew of surprising results during the first week of NFL action, I am supremely confident that this NFL breakdown on every Week 1 contest will help BetOnline pro football betting enthusiasts in their efforts to make a slew of wise selections on every upcoming Week 2 contest on the docket.
Seahawks 31 49ers 6
Either Pete Carroll is a freakin’ genius or the San Francisco 49ers are clearly not going to be as good as everyone thought! If you didn’t read it before, let me reiterate, the Seahawks had the best draft in the league – and the Niners had better start praying that Alex Smith is the real deal (not).

Texans 34 Colts 24
While I didn’t call this game for my BetOnline NFL betting brethren, I picked this win for the Texans and now I believe they really have a shot at getting into the postseason in the AFC. Texans’ running back Arian Foster is a star in the making and despite their horrific run defense – I wouldn’t be too worried if I were a Colts fan.
Packers 27 Eagles 20
I said it before and I’ll say it again. Two bad games in a row and Kevin Kolb is going to be in big trouble – if he isn’t already. The Eagles – and their fans – all came alive once three-time Pro Bowler Michael Vick took Kolb’s place. The Pack handled their business and covered the NFL betting odds as expected.

Redskins 13 Cowboys 7
Jerry Jones has a brand new stadium, money to burn – and an offensive line that apparently can’t stop running water! Maybe it’s me, but I’m thinking the clock has to be ticking for both, head coach Wade Phillips and underachieving quarterback Tony Romo. The Shanahan-McNabb era got off to a fine start – and could reach the playoffs in their very first year together if they continue to play defense like they did last season and against the Cowboys on Sunday night.
Bears 19 Lions 14
Detroit saw starting quarterback Matt Stafford get injured – and then got absolutely robbed out of a win. Still, I can see the Bears are absolutely mediocre while the Lions are heading in the right direction with their rebuilding plan.

Saints 14 Vikings 9
Neither NFC Championship participant looked like they were firing on all cylinders, but I expect both of these teams to be legitimate conference title contenders at the least.
Titans 38 Raiders 13
If Vince Young plays like he did last season, the Titans could very well reach the postseason. Of course, you can’t make too much of a judgment off of a win over the pitiful Raiders. Still, I’d hate to be lining up opposite of Young and running back Chris Johnson.
Giants 31 Panthers 18
The Giants beat the Panthers as expected, but I still saw a lot to be desired out of their overall play. On the other hand, at least they’re not Carolina right now. The Panthers look like they’ll be handing over their starting quarterback job to Jimmy Clausen at some point in the very near future as Matt Moore looked absolutely clueless until getting his bell rung with a game-ending concussion.
Jaguars 24 Broncos 17
The Broncos could be in for a bit of a rough ride this season while the Jaguars have the clear-cut look of an 8-8 team despite their season-opening win over Denver.
Steelers 15 Falcons 9
Dolphins 15 Bills 10
The Dolphins won this contest but still have the look of a team that is going to go 8-8 at best this season. Miami struggled mightily to beat a Bills team that put the ‘M’ in mediocre.
Patriots 38 Bengals 24
I kept writing it in the preseason and I’ll write it again. I have the very distinct feeling that the Patriots have a chip on their collective shoulders the size of Mount Rushmore. Despite the fact that not many people have picked them to win the AFC this year – I can see it happening. The Bengals clearly weren’t ready for this contest, but I expect them to still battle for the AFC North division title.
Buccaneers 17 Browns 14
The rebuilding Buccaneers have a real winner in second-year quarterback Josh Freeman and are now headed in the right direction while the Browns have an aging Jake Delhomme throwing the same horrible passes that got him booted out of Carolina and a lack of talented playmakers that is almost laughable.
Cardinals 17 Rams 13
Yup, NFL betting enthusiasts, the Cardinals are really going to miss Kurt Warner this season! Sam Bradford and the young Rams may have lost this game, but they sure looked better than their older counterparts in doing so.
Ravens 10 Jets 9
The Ravens and Jets didn’t provide many highlights in this one, but what do you expect out of two of the very best defenses in all of football. Scoring on either of these teams this season won’t be very easy.
Chiefs 21 Chargers 14
Get out! The Chiefs always give the Bolts hell when they visit the Midwest, but their defense in this game looked absolutely incredible! Oh, before I go, let me say that San Diego might want to rethink their stance on holdout wide receiver Vincent Jackson as their passing attack against the Chiefs looked almost non-existent.
