September 21, 2010

NFL betting enthusiasts that were surprised by the NFL’s handful of upsets in Week 1 might want to start adjusting their thinking concerning several teams, as the regular season’s second week of action revealed a few more ‘truths’ every team in the league.

This look back at every Week 2 result will help rabid pro football betting enthusiasts everywhere make wiser decisions on all of their upcoming Week 3 selections.

With that thought in mind, let me get started.

Dolphins 14 Vikings 10
Okay, football bettors, the Dolphins apparently have a helluva defense on their hands this season while the Vikings had better get their struggling offense in gear like right now. Speaking of offense, Miami’s offense reminds me of a true 1970’s team. Talk about three yards and a cloud of dust!

Falcons 41 Cardinals 7
What did anyone learn from this game? Not much I suspect! The Falcons are explosive with Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and Matt Turner and the Cardinals don’t look like they’ll be exploding on anyone this season without Kurt Warner.

Bengals 15 Ravens 10
This is about what I expected out of this contest, although I thought Baltimore would end up with the win in this one. The AFC North is going to be a knock-down, drag-out, three-way race for the second consecutive season.

Chiefs 18 Browns 14
The Chiefs have gotten the job down by putting the clamps on the Bolts and Browns in consecutive weeks – and that’s something no one expected. The browns really dropped the ball by bringing in Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace to be their top two signal-callers when it’s painfully clear that Delhomme is toast right now and Wallace, still a career backup at best.

Bears 27 Cowboys 20
The Bears may not have a bunch of quality receivers, but the addition of offensive coordinator Mike Martz has clearly helped the team’s offense and strong-armed quarterback Jay Cutler immensely. The Cowboys on the other hand, look really lethargic on offense and mostly confused on defense.

Eagles 35 Lions 32
Michael Vick helped the Birds get their first win of the season in Week 2 with another fine performance after nearly leading the team to a comeback win over Green Bay in Week 1. Too bad Vick’s going back to the bench in favor of Kevin Kolb. Talk about a boneheaded Andy Reid move!

Packers 34 Bills 7
Oh yeah, NFL bettors learned a whole lot about both of these teams –not! The Packers rolled to victory as expected while Buffalo head coach Chan Gailey is already changing starting quarterbacks by benching Trent Edwards in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick … like that’s going to cure all of Buffalo’s ailments.

Steelers 19 Titans 11
No big Ben Roethlisberger? No problem! Pittsburgh looks like they have a collective chip on their shoulders right now and could be a favorite to win the conference crown if they keep playing at such a high level defensively and Roethlisberger comes back ready to roll. Jeff Fisher’s knee-jerk reaction to pull starting quarterback Vince Young was absolutely foolish, seeing as how Pittsburgh’s defense can make any quarterback, young or old, look really bad almost every time they take the field.

Buccaneers 20 Panthers 7
The Buccaneers have a fine young defense and one of the game’s best young quarterbacks in second-year starter Josh Freeman. The Panthers have a defense that is falling apart, not to mention the fact that head coach John Fox and his staff must have had blinders on all preseason because Matt Moore is absolutely horrific!

Broncos 41 Seahawks 14
The Broncos opened up a can on the Seahawks who fell back to earth in a big way after upsetting the Niners in their regular season opener two weeks ago. Denver looks like a classic 8-8 team right now while the Seahawks still have plenty of work to do as they rebuild under Pete Carroll.

Raiders 16 Rams 14
Anyone that was expecting the Raiders to play competent football after acquiring Jason Campbell and going 3-1 in the preseason had better think again. The Raiders looks as mediocre as ever after two games while St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo must have rocks in his head after running Steven Jackson just 19 times – after letting rookie quarterback Sam Bradford throw the ball an unheard-of 55 times in his very first NFL start two weeks ago.

Jets 28 Patriots 14
The Oats rolled all over Cincinnati in Week 1 but couldn’t do much of anything against the Jets in Week 2. New York rebounded from its dismal showing in Week 1 to handle the Pats surprisingly easily in Week 2. This just tells me the two AFC East rivals are going to be locked in a season-long battle for division supremacy.

Chargers 38 Jaguars 13
Jacksonville’s David Garrard may not be the bet quarterback in the league, but one thing about him is he’s generally very careful with the football. Not this past Sunday as the Bolts picked him off four times after getting shut down by the Chiefs in their regular season opener two weeks ago.

Texans 30 Redskins 27
Even in defeat, I have to say the Washington Redskins looked very good – and now I believe they may have a shot to win the NFC East outright. Needless to say, the Houston Texans are totally looking like a playoff team at this point.

Saints 25 49ers 22
The Niners fell to 0-2 with Monday night’s loss to New Orleans, but didn’t play badly like they did in getting routed by Seattle in their opener, but I’m still not too sure Alex Smith is the answer for the Niners at quarterback.
