NFL Betting Advice Says Things Not Looking Good For Reeling Vikings as Bears Loom

December 20, 2010

Thanks to last week’s dome collapse at the Metrodome, the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will take to the frozen gridiron at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup.

My NFL betting advice for this matchup says it really doesn’t matter where these two teams meet – as I suspect the Vikings are going to be in trouble no matter where these two NFC North division rivals meet.

Monday, December 20, 8:20 PM ET
TV: ESPN
Radio: Sirius 125 and 126

NFL Odds
Chicago Bears -8
Over/Under 33.5

Here is a look at the key head-to-head trends surrounding this NFC North divisional matchup.

  • Home team is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 meetings.
  • Favorite is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
  • Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Minnesota.

Chicago 411

  • Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Monday Night games.
  • Bears are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
  • Bears are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.

The Bears (9-4 SU, 6-6-1 ATS, 5-8 O/U) are coming off a dismal 36-7 rout to the New England Patriots in Week 15 that snapped the team’s impressive five-game SU winning streak the last time out. Chicago failed to cash in against the online football spread as a 3-point home underdog to fall to 0-2 ATS over its last two games – and making the NFL betting advice just a wee bit tougher coming into this important matchup.

The Bears will be looking to duplicate their convincing 27-13 win over the Vikings they recorded in Week 12 as they picked off Brett Favre three times and held Adrian Peterson to just 51 rushing yards.

Chicago has played Over its set O/U Total in three straight games.

Minnesota 411

  • Vikings are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Vikings are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Monday Night games.
  • Vikings are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC North.
  • Vikings are 0-6 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Minnesota (5-8 SU, 4-9 ATS, 6-7 O/U) is coming off a dismal 21-3 loss to the New York Giants in their Week 14 matchup. The Vikings got an uneven effort from Tavaris Jackson in the contest after Brett Favre sat out for the first time since way back in 1992 to end his all-time consecutive games played record.

The NFL betting advice from most handicappers a week ago urged football betting enthusiasts to back the Giants with Minnesota playing without Favre. That advice turned out to be the correct pick as the Vikings failed to cover the NFL point spread as a 5-point home underdog to snap its two-game SU and ATS winning streak.

Prediction: My NFL betting advice for tonight’s matchup is really quite simple with Minnesota giving rookie quarterback Joe Webb his first career start in absolutely overwhelming conditions.

First and foremost, Minnesota is just 4-9 against the football betting spread this season and has recorded just one victory this season outside the comforts of the warm and cozy Metrodome.

The Bears are 5-1 SU and 3-2-1 ATS and on the road this season and I suspect they will bounce back tonight to make my NFL betting advice come true for bettors that want to back the Bears tonight.

Minnesota is just 1-5 SU and ATS away from home this season and from all of the crying their players have been doing about playing this game in frigid conditions, I think the Vikings just want to get this game – and season – over with.

I know Chicago doesn’t have the most explosive offense around, but I like their defense to put the clamps on the Vikings tonight and my NFL betting advice says they’ll do just that en route to a solid ATS payday.

NFL Picks: Chicago Bears -8 Points
