NFL Betting – Packers and Falcons in the Best Game of the Weekend!
January 17, 2011
The Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons square off in the Saturday NFC Divisional Playoff game and my NFL Betting dollar will be with the winner of this game representing the NFC at the Super Bowl. This game is basically the NFC final – no disrespect to the other teams. The Packers are red hot and the Falcons have been that way all season long.
GREEN BAY PACKERS (10-6) vs. ATLANTA FALCONS (13-3)

The Green Back Packers are right back on the Super Bowl NFL Betting radar after a brief time off it. The Pack handled a very solid Philadelphia team on the road last week after handling a tough Bears team the week before. The defense and the offense appear to be getting it all together at just the right time.
Green Bay’s offense has been good all season long – they have the 5th best passing game and the 24th ranked rushing attack. Aaron Rodgers has matured and is now unquestionably an elite caliber quarterback.
He Greg Jennings, Donald Driver and the emerging James Jones are a threat every drive. The problem has been that the Pack were far too one dimensional – the pass was becoming predictable and easy to defend.
Enter James Starks! A gift from the NFL Betting gods! Against Philadelphia, Starks burst onto the scene with 123 yards rushing. Not only does it help to gain a few yards on the ground but it takes some pressure off of Aaron Rodgers so he can methodically pick his opposition apart.
Green Bay’s defense has been incredible all season long – 5th against the pass and 18th versus the run. Their strength is exemplified by their second best scoring defense – 15 points per game. They held 13 of 17 opponents to under 20 yards this season.
Clay Matthews, BJ Raji, AJ Hawk and Charles Woodsen are not players that you want to face right now – they have generated nine turnovers in their last three games.
The Atlanta Falcons and a lot to prove this season and they did just that! Top seed in the NFL is quite an accomplishment. Now they get home field advantage where they have been nearly unbeatable in the last three years.
The Atlanta offense doesn’t have the numbers of an NFL Betting favorite but when they put it all together, they are as solid a team as there is in the NFL. They are 15th in passing and 12th in rushing. On defense, the Falcons were 22nd against the pass and 10th against the run. Nothing spectacular, but solid!
Matt Ryan is going to have to be the man in this contest – the Green Bay defense has been shutting opposing running backs down. Ryan is going to have to find his receivers quickly because the Packers incredible pass rush has a motor that won’t stop. He is going to have to limit mistakes because an explosive, efficient team like the Packers will take advantage.
NFL Betting Outlook:
The Green Bay Packers are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games but are just 1-5 ATS in their last six versus Atlanta. Green Bay is 2-4 SU in their last six games overall against Atlanta and is 1-5 on the road in the Georgia Dome.
The Atlanta Falcons are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games and are 8-1 SU in their last none at home. Against Green Bay Atlanta is 4-2 SU and 5-1 SU at home.
The Georgia Dome crowd will be fired up for this game guaranteed. This is a huge turning point in the career of Matt Ryan. A whole city’s football lives weigh upon this kid’s shoulders. I don’t think that he’s ready yet. The Packers are too complete right now. There are no holes in Green Bay’s game but there are a few kinks in the Falcons’. Green Bay is too much!
NFL Betting Pick: Green Bay Packers +2 ½
