NFL Betting – NFC Elite Clash This Sunday – Green Bay vs. Atlanta

November 28, 2010

Two of the NFL Betting favorites to represent the NFC at the Super Bowl go head-to head on Sunday in what is the marquee matchup of the weekend.

The Green Bay Packers, fresh off a 31-3 thumping of Minnesota travel to Atlanta to take on an Atlanta team that is simply money on their home turf.

The Green Bay Packers proved why they have been NFL Betting darlings over the past couple of seasons with an absolute manhandling of Minnesota on Sunday. Their offense has been solid and their defense is not far behind.

The Packers will be successful as long as Aaron Rodgers is upright and able to create out of the backfield. The offensive line is vastly improved over last season and the numbers have started to come. Rodgers passed for 301 yards and four touchdowns last week. Greg Jennings has been a beast and the supporting receivers (Donald Driver, James Jones and Jordy Nelson) have been solid when called upon.

The Packers have the 11th ranked passing game (247.1 yards per game) and the 19th ranked running game (100.50 yards per game) in the NFL and they score the 8th most points per game in the league (25.20 points per game).

The Green Bay defense has been superb this season. They are ranked 11th versus the pass (211.30 yards per game) and 18th versus the run (112.20) The numbers are a little misleading when you consider that they have given up the least amount of points in the NFL (14.60 per game), they lead the NFL in sacks and they have given up just one touchdown in their last 13 quarters.

The Atlanta Falcons enter Sunday’s contest as perhaps one of the most balanced NFL Betting teams in the league. They are on a four game win streak and are money at home. With Matt Ryan at quarterback, the Falcons are 18-1 in their last 19 games, including 14 straight wins.

Atlanta’s passing game currently ranks 13th in the NFL and  boasts names like league leader in receptions and receiving yards, Roddy White, Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez and a decent supporting cast as well. The running game (6th in the NFL) has Michael Turner, and Jason Snelling to keep defenses off balance. Game management, change of tempo and overall execution has allowed the Falcons to outscore their opponents 73-30 in the fourth quarter of games this season.

The Atlanta defense will give the Green Bay offense fits. They are a tad vulnerable versus the pass (24th in the NFL) but they are strong against the run (6th in the league) and are 2nd in the league in turnover differential with a plus -10.

NFL Betting Outlook:

The Green Bay Packers are 4-1 SU in their last five games but are just 1-4 ATS in their last five versus Atlanta and 1-4 SU in their last five trips to the Georgia Dome.

The Atlanta Falcons are 8-1 SU in their last nine games and 5-0 SU at home in their last five. The Falcons are 4-1 SU in their last five home games against Green Bay.

It is pretty difficult to bet against the Falcons at home, that’s for sure. But this week they take on a Green Bay team that played indoors last week and were very convincing. The Falcons have been somewhat vulnerable versus the pass this season and that is Green Bay’s game. I like the Packers offense to do some damage and the Green Bay defense to do just enough to secure the win on Sunday.

NFL Betting Pick: Green Bay Packers +2 ½
