NFL Betting – Denver vs Tennessee

October 3, 2010

The Denver Broncos have the best passing offense in the league and still sit at 1-2 on the season.

The Tennessee Titans are 2-1 on the season with a combination of strong running and solid defense.

These two hook up in Nashville this Sunday in what should be a potent offensive showdown. The early NFL betting has favored the underdog Broncos by a 57/43 ratio.

The NFL odds makers have set the Tennessee Titans as -6½-point favorites. A straight up bet on the underdog Broncos will pay NFL bettors +230 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 43 points.

There were doubts about Orton’s ability to be a full time starter but since joining the Broncos, he’s proved his critics wrong. Kyle Orton currently sits second in the NFL with 1078 passing yards. Last week he threw in a career high 476 yards against the Colts.

It wasn’t enough because the Broncos don’t have a run game worth mentioning.

Last year’s rookie of the year candidate, running back Knowshon Moreno struggled in the first two games and missed last week’s game against the Colts with a hamstring injury.

Denver added Lawrence Maroney in a trade with the Patriots but he’s also dealing with injuries. On the season, the Broncos are rank 30th in the league with just 67 yards a game.

Their inability to keep drives alive was their downfall against the Colts. The Broncos were just 5 for 15 on third down attempts and just 1 for 4 on fourth down tries.

The Tennessee Titans have no trouble running the ball. Led by Chris Johnson, the Titans have run for 137.3 yards a game but that total is skewed by a 46-yard day against the Steelers. Johnson is still averaging over 100 yards a game has four touchdowns on the season.

Quarterback Vince Young hasn’t been a world-beater this season. He did enough against the Giants and the Raiders but Coach Jeff Fisher put Kerry Collins in late in the game against the Steelers. Young threw two interceptions and lost a fumble against Pittsburgh.

The Titans defense has allowed only two offensive touchdowns in three games. They are a middle of the road team against the run but they have held opposing quarterbacks to 177 yards a game.

The Broncos defense has been solid against the run but Chris Johnson is the best back they’ve faced all season. Although with Orton at the helm, they are in every game that they play. I like the Broncos to stay close with the Titans and not allow Tennessee to cover the NFL betting spread.

NFL Betting Pick: Denver Broncos +6½
