NFC Update – Chicago Enters Top 5 and Bucs Continue to Impress Against NFL Betting Spread

December 1, 2010

The Chicago Bears, by virtue of their excellent victory over the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday, enter the NFC Top 5 NFL betting list and are now the true front-runner for the NFC North Division title.

The Bears have one of the best defenses in the NFL and, surprisingly, a good to great offense, when QB Jay Cutler plays within himself. Besides the Bears impressing, St. Louis, Atlanta and Tampa Bay continued on their 2010 against the spread magical tour. All three covered in the sportsbook this past Sunday.

NFC Top 5 NFL Betting

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-4 (8-3 ATS) – - The Bucs played the Baltimore Ravens tough when losing 10 to 17 as 7 ½ point NFL against the spread betting dogs. They face Atlanta at home this week in a game they seriously need to win. The Buccaneers, should they beat Atlanta, would take a big step towards securing an NFL wildcard playoff spot in the NFC.

  1. St. Louis Rams 5-6 (8-3 ATS) – - St. Louis proved that they could stick with a high scoring team by outscoring the Denver Broncos 36 to 33 as 3-point dogs in the sportsbook this past Sunday. Now, they face Arizona this Sunday before traveling to New Orleans to take on the Saints. St. Louis has a legit shot at the NFC West Division championship this season. Who would have thought that was possible after last season?

  1. Atlanta Falcons 9-2 (7-4 ATS) – - The Dirty Birds are turning this Saints’ fan into a believer. Man, that defense stepped up this past Sunday when holding the Green Bay Packers to only 17 points in a 20 to 17 victory. QB Matt Ryan is the real deal. Yeah…even I have to admit that!

  1. Detroit Lions 2-9 (7-4 ATS) – - I really thought the Lions could cover the 6-point spread in their Thanksgiving Day game versus the New England Patriots. Heck they were on their way to winning the game straight up at huge NFL odds, the halftime score was Lions 17 and Patriots 10, before the Pats outscored Detroit 35 to 7 in the second half for a 45 to 24 victory.

  1. Chicago Bears 8-3 (6-4-1 ATS) – - The 31 to 26 victory over Philly as 3-point home dogs was a thing of beauty. The Bears’ D held QB Michael Vick to 44 yards on the ground and actually picked the ball off against him. Now, the Bears are in the driver’s seat for the NFC North Division.

NFC Bottom 5 NFL Betting

  1. Carolina Panthers 1-10 (3-8 ATS) – - At least RB Jonathan Stewart rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries and the Panthers made a game of it versus the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday in the 23 to 24 loss. Other than that…

  1. Arizona Cardinals 3-8 (3-8 ATS) – - Arizona recorded their sixth straight loss in the 6 to 27 beat down they received from San Francisco this past Monday night. What a garbage team the Cads are this season! They’ve gone 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games.

  1. Minnesota Vikings 4-7 (3-8 ATS) – - Sure, new head coach Leslie Frazier is 1 and 0 and the Vikings won both straight up and against the NFL betting spread in their 17 to 13 victory over the Washington Redskins in their last, but the truth is that Minnesota is still a terrible, terrible team. Facing the 29th ranked pass defense in the NFL, Brett Favre managed to throw for only 172 passing yards.

  1. Dallas Cowboys 3-8 (4-7 ATS) – - The Cowboys are starting to do some nice things on the football field. They did lose 27 to 30 to the Saints but they were 4 ½ point dogs in that Thanksgiving Day game. Dallas has covered the spread in 3 straight games.

  1. San Francisco 4-7 (4-7 ATS) – - Sure, they looked really good versus Arizona on Monday night. Will they look that good versus the Green Bay Packers this Sunday? Maybe. Green Bay is desperate and the 49’ers don’t always respond well when facing a desperate team.
