New York Knicks vs. Detroit Pistons – Wallace and Iverson out
March 12, 2009
The Knicks travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons in what amounts to a game between two bad teams in the Eastern Conference. New York is fun to watch now that Coach Mike D’Antoni has instituted the run and gun but the run and gun hasn’t translated to wins with New York garnering a straight-up record of 26 and 37 this season. The Knicks are 35-27-1 ATS overall, though, which is pretty good for a bad team, and 17-12-1 against the spread on the road.
Detroit is a solid team but the trade for Allen Iverson hasn’t really panned out as expected. Iverson is actually out for this game but even when he’s been healthy, he hasn’t been all that spectacular. Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and Rip Hamilton are all good players but they haven’t been instrumental in making Detroit a contender like they did last season. Detroit’s straight-up record is only 32 and 30. Their record ATS is 36 and 36. Their record against the spread at home is 16 and 14.
Here are the sportsbook betting odds for this game.
New York Knicks +7 -110 +250 O 206 ½ -110
Detroit Pistons -7 -110 -300 U 206 ½ -110
Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.
The New York Knicks are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games versus a team from the N.L. Central.
The New York Knicks are 4 and 1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Detroit Pistons are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games overall.
The Detroit Pistons are 4 and 12 ATS in their last 16 games at home.
Detroit is coming off of a victory over the Orlando Magic. That’s their second victory over Orlando in their last 7 games. They also beat the Boston Celtics recently and took down the Denver Nuggets. That means the Pistons are playing good nba basketball.
New York is coming off of a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. Now they have to travel to Detroit and try to run with the Pistons who boast some pretty good shooters on their team in Tayshaun Prince and Rip Hamilton. How effective will the run and gun be for the Knicks in the second of back to back games? The last time this happened, New York lost to the New Jersey Nets.
This will be New York’s third straight game on the road. They go into a tough environment in order to play Detroit and all of the signs point to Detroit absolutely smashing the Knicks, but I love New York’s record ATS and the trends say that New York has a shot.
I’m gong with the Knicks in this one. I have to take the points. This is especially true since Rasheed Wallace may or may not suit up for the Pistons in this game.
I’ll be making a bet on New York to beat the +7 points in the sportsbook.
