New York Giants are Seven-Point Football Betting Favorites vs. Washington on Sunday
December 5, 2010
The New York Giants are 7-point NFL football betting favorites to defeat the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Dec. 5 th.
The G-Men bounced back well after 2 straight losses to Dallas and Philadelphia by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24 to 20 as -8 point favorites. NYG is only 5 and 6 against the spread on the season but they face a team in the Washington Redskins that’s starting to play like one of the worst teams in the NFL.
Will the Giants take advantage of that, or will Washington find a way to keep this game close?

The NFL betting trends favor the New York Giants in this game.
- The New York Giants are 22 and 10 ATS in their last 32 games following a straight up win.
- The Washington Redskins are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
- The Washington Redskins are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings in New York.
- The Favorite is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
The football betting odds makers actually give the Skins more credit than they deserve in this game. Washington had been sliding by until running into Indianapolis on Oct. 17 th. The Skins played well in that game when losing 24 to 27 and pushing in the sportsbook, but after that it got really dicey for Washington. They’ve gone 2 and 3 straight up and 2 and 3 against the spread since. The wheels really fell off after the Redskins bye week when they lost 28 to 59 at home against the Philadelphia Eagles as 3 ½ point underdogs.
Donovan McNabb in Washington hasn’t worked out the way some expected. McNabb has thrown 11 TD passes as opposed to 13 picks for a 76.0 QB rating. He doesn’t appear to be comfortable under center. Of course, who would be when the offensive line is banged up and the team is down to their 3 rd string running back?
The G-Men are suffering through injuries as well. QB Eli Manning is missing his top two wide outs in Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks, but WR Mario Manningham proved last week that he could step it up for Peyton’s little brother. In his first game as the #1 wide receiver, against Jacksonville last week, Manningham responded with 3 catches for 61 yards and a TD. Granted, 3 catches isn’t a lot but Eli targeted Mario only 4 times in that game.
Rest assured that Eli is going to target Manningham many more times against Washington’s 29 th ranked pass defense. The Skins give up 269 yards through the air per game. They also give up 131 yards per game on the ground meaning that they’re just going to have issues stopping the Giants from racking up points in every way.
The Giants have the 2 nd ranked defense in the NFL. It gives up only 186 yards per game through the air. Since the Skins can’t really run the ball with both Clinton Portis and Ryan Torain suffering, the G-Men should be able to tee off on McNabb when he goes back to pass.
That’s bad news for the Redskins. I just don’t see Washington being close in this game. Eli’s timing with Manningham should be much better this Sunday than it was last Sunday. What it means is that the Giants’ offense will be much better this Sunday than it was last Sunday.
The football betting odds favor the Giants ATS in this game. I’m not arguing against that.
