Nebraska is a 9 ½ Point Football Odds Fave Versus the Texas Longhorns
October 16, 2010
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have quickly become one of the best teams in the nation. Now ranked #4, the ‘Huskers have been sensational so far in 2010, destroying teams as, usually, a favorite in the football betting odds sports book.
The Cornhuskers are favorites again this Saturday when rival Texas comes to Lincoln. The Texas Longhorns, who have gone 0 and 2 straight up since starting the season 3 and 0 and being ranked in the Top 10, don’t appear to have much of a shot against the incredibly gifted ‘Huskers.

But the football odds makers have been kind enough to give handicappers looking to back Texas 9 ½ points. Will Nebraska cover such a daunting spread against their desperate rival?
Texas Longhorns vs. #9 Nebraska Cornhuskers

NCAAF Betting Lines
Texas Longhorns +9½ -110
Nebraska Cornhuskers -9 ½ -110
The betting trends favor the Nebraska Cornhuskers in this game.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 19-3-1 ATS in their last 23 games at home versus a team with a winning record on the road.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 10 and 4 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
- The Texas Longhorns are 1-4-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
- The Texas Longhorns are 1 and 7 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The undefeated Cornhuskers haven’t been very good against the spread in 2010 going 2-2-1 out of their 5 games but when they’ve had to, when they’ve played against teams that they’ve had to crush, they’ve done it.
Although the Cornhuskers failed as 27 ½ point football odds online favorites versus Idaho in a 38 to 17 victory and failed as 41 ½ point favorites in a 17 to 3 victory over South Dakota State, the ‘Huskers have been exceptional in their 2 games against supposedly tough opponents.
As only 3-point football odds against the spread favorites on the road versus the Washington Huskies, Nebraska exploded for 56 point in a 56 to 21 victory. Against Kansas State on the road in their second “tough” game, the ‘Huskers slapped the Wildcats around 48 to 13 as -11 point favorites.
Will Nebraska come up huge again on Saturday? I believe that they will. Texas has a decent offense but their defense is terrible. The Longhorn D gives up 20 points per game on average. That includes yielding 34 to UCLA and 28 to Oklahoma in their last 2 games.
Texas’ D, although still ranked 6th in the nation, has no shot against ‘Husker QB Taylor Martinez who should rush for 100 yards by half time in this game. When Nebraska is on defense, forget it. The Cornhuskers are #1 in the nation against the pass. They allow less than 13 points against them per game.
Last year’s Big 12 Championship Game came down to a final field goal with Texas coming out on top 13 to 12 over Nebraska. I expect Nebraska to exacta major revenge over the Longhorns on Saturday. With Martinez playing QB, the ‘Huskers should beat the Longhorns by around 17 points, if not more, in this game.
The ‘Huskers are an easy football odds handicapping pick in this game. They should cover the 9 ½ point spread versus Texas with ease.
