NCAAF Sports Betting – FSU Only Getting -3.5 Points Against NC State

October 29, 2010

The Florida State Seminoles are hoping to return to the ACC Championship game in NCAAF sports betting this year and need quarterback Christian Ponder to tough it out through a swollen elbow to get there.

That won’t necessarily be an easy task when the Seminoles visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack, who could build some renewed momentum by stealing a win over the favored visitors.

It almost hasn’t mattered what number they’ve put on this NCAAF sports betting matchup in the past. Though Florida State owns the edge in the wins column, the Wolfpack are a glaring 8-2 ATS in their past 10 games against FSU.

However, don’t let that betting trend fool you. They’re also 2-5 SU in their last 7 games when playing FSU.

That last trend should hold more weight for you since the average betting line when NC State and FSU play each other has always favored the Seminoles, but usually by an average of -12.6 points on the sports betting line.

So what’s brought this line so far down?

#16 Florida State Seminoles (6-1) vs. N.C. State Wolfpack (5-2)

NCAAF Betting Line: FSU -3.5 (57.5)

Well, for one, the NC State Wolfpack has been playing pretty well through the first half of the NCAAF sports betting season. They sit right behind the FSU Seminoles in the ACC’s Atlantic division, and know that a big win could put them in the discussion when the title game comes around.

One of the other reasons for FSU’s relatively low line is that quarterback Christian Ponder had a swollen bursa sac in his elbow. Apparently, the elbow hasn’t been bothering Ponder that much since he threw three interceptions in a sluggish win over Boston College two weeks ago. But everyone who’s been following the sports betting progress of the Seminoles knows that they live and die by Ponder.

Both teams have had a week off to prepare for this game, and I think the much needed rest will be a good thing for Ponder and the FSU Seminoles. As much as I like the Wolfpack, I also think they’ll take too many risks offensively, which isn’t a good idea against a team defense from FSU which leads the conference in defensive scoring.

This is going to be a scoring fiesta none the less. FSU’s defense has allowed just 16.1 points per game this season, ranking 13th in the country, but you can bet your sports betting dollars that the Wolfpack will either push hard to drive the score in to the OVER, or give up in a hapless second half like they did against Virginia Tech.

Either way, I think the tight line is a gift from the oddsmakers. FSU clears the sports betting line with ease as they lay claim to the ACC’s Atlantic Division definitively, lining up a potential title game with the dreaded Auburn Tigers. I just haven’t been impressed by NC State all that much in big pressure, sports betting matchups. This is one of those.
