NCAAF Odds Busters – Memphis Tigers vs. Louisville Cardinals
October 9, 2010
Historically, the Louisville Cardinals have never fared too well against the NCAAF odds when playing the Memphis Tigers but this weekend should be a chance for them to tip the scales back in their favor. The heavily favored Cardinals host the toothless Tigers during an important rebuilding phase for them, and while winning games against Memphis has never been a problem, clearing the number has.
Louisville is just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against Memphis. The average NCAAF odds they’ve received in those matchups has been -9.0, largely because they’ve played four of those games on the road in Memphis.

Which is a God send for those betting on Louisville this weekend because Memphis is atrocious on the road. The Tigers are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, and have gone winless in their past 5 trips away from home. They’re also 1-6 SU overall in those seven aforementioned games against Louisville.
Memphis Tigers (1-4) vs. Louisville Cardinals (2-2)
Saturday, October 9th — Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium — 2:00pm EST
NCAAF Odds: Louisville -17.0 (51)
Whether Louisville wins this game or not isn’t really the question. People need to know if the Cardinals can cover the modest NCAAF odds on them. My biggest concern is that they’ve allowed 23.8 points against this year against Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Oregon State and Arkansas State. At home, they’ve only given up 14.5 points per game, but they’ve also only dropped 23.0 points per game on their own field.
The main difference is that Memphis has a terrible defense and an even more troubling offense. They’ve given up a whopping 35.8 points per game and managed a point for average of just 15.6.
This isn’t the same Louisville team that was one of the better teams in the country a few years back, and their implosion is an unfortunate example of what happens to fragile football programs during down times.
Senior quarterback Adam Froman hasn’t been the passing dynamo necessary for the Cardinals to be a high-flying scoring attack like they usually are. He’s on pace for just under 2,900 yards this season and only has 5 touchdowns through four games.
That being said, this isn’t the type of game Louisville should lose and playing at home should give them a definitive advantage against the hapless Memphis Tigers. Louisville is going to get tight lines, but at home they have my trust against the NCAAF odds.
