NCAAF Odds Buster – Central Michigan Has Plenty To Prove Against Eagles
September 18, 2010
The Central Michigan Chippewas were actually one the steadiest NCAAF odds busters in the MAC Conference even though nobody really noticed. After suffering a 13-10 overtime loss to Temple, the Central Michigan Chippewas will look to get back to their usual winning ways when the visit the Eastern Michigan Eagles as moderately heavy favorites.
Against the 2009 NCAAF odds, the Chippewas actually went 12-2 SU and 9-3 ATS during the regular season as they claimed victory over Ohio to win the MAC Conference. But any hopes of them repeating as upstarts this year has taken a serious blow thanks to the inability of quarterback sophomore Ryan Radcliff.
He’s completed 45-for-69 passes in two games, and managed just 541 yards while throwing a single touchdown this year. He’s been unable to satisfy the Central Michigan betting backers against the NCAAF odds and carry their momentum from last year. It’s obvious this team misses Dan LeFevour, who’s now in the NFL.
Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1) vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles (0-2)
Saturday, September 18th — Rynearson Stadium — 4:00pm EST
NCAAF Odds and Lines: Central Michigan -9 (46.5)
That doesn’t mean I think they’re going to lose to Eastern Michigan. Last season they walloped the Eagles 56-8 at home with a line of -23.5 and a TOAL of 53.5. Perhaps the only thing notable about that score is that they nearly covered the OVER by themselves.
Which is important to note because Eastern Michigan doesn’t have an offense that you can rely on. The Eagles are winless in their last 5 games and just 3-7 ATS when playing at home so far. They’ve also lost their past 5 home games.
Regardless, I’m still willing to back the Chippewas against the NCAAF odds this weekend. Eastern Michigan has given up 309.0 rushing yards per game which should give Paris Cotton, who has 134 yards and 2 touchdowns this year, plenty of room to run.
Central Michigan was an easy bet last year, but this year I’d keep a watchful eye on them in the MAC Conference. They’ve taken a serious step back with Radcliff as their quarterback, so you’re going to have to go week-by-week with them. Fortunately they have a favorable matchup against Eastern Michigan, so they should be able to clear the NCAAF odds in this game.
