NCAAF Free Picks – Baylor vs Texas Tech

October 9, 2010

This NCAAF Free Pick features a pair of schools from the Lone Star state as the Baylor Bears take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

For Texas Tech, this is a real must-win for them as they’ve dropped two in a row their last being a 52-38 loss to Iowa State. It will be no easy task as Baylor crushed Kansas, a team that has made some impressive strides this year, last week by a 55-7 final.

With this one being played at a neutral site and the building sure to be packed to the rafters, one this is certain for this Saturday’s clash, this one is going to be a dandy.

Baylor Bears vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (Cotton Bowl – Dallas, TX)

Saturday October 9th at 12 PM ET
TV: FSN

In previous years, you would figure Texas Tech to come in as the betting favourite, but the way these two teams have been playing so far this year, this contest is a straight up pick’em.

This is Baylor’s chance to finally end the 14-game losing streak to their interstate rivals, and you know they feel like this is their best chance as doing so seeing as how well they’ve played this year.

NCAAF Free Picks Spread:

Baylor (-110)
Vanderbilt (-110)
Total – 62 ½

Last week versus Kansas, Baylor not only beat the Jayhawks, they kicked the living shit out of them.

How are these for stats: 678 yards of total offence (school record) 48-point margin of victory (school record for conference game), Robert Griffin’s 444 yards of total offence (school record) and his 94-yard touchdown pass (school record).

As you can tell by those numbers, Baylor’s quarterback Robert Griffin is the most important player on this team, and may be the most important player to any team in the nation.

He’s the offensive catalyst in the passing game, with goes without saying because he’s the one throwing the ball, but he also does it on the ground as he has amassed 19 rushing touchdowns in his colligate career.

On the season he has amassed 1,351 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air and also has 221 yards on the ground including four touchdowns.

Here are some NCAAF Free Pick trends for this matchup:

  • Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
  • Favorite is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
  • Bears are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
  • Road team is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

If you’ve noticed that I’ve pretty much only talked about Baylor in this piece gives you an idea of who I like in this one. I’m not sold on Texas Tech this year, especially their defence, and when you look at what Griffin has been able to do this year, I just don’t think they’ll have an answer for him.

NCAAF Free Picks: Baylor (-110)
