The Utes began the season unranked in either the coaches or the AP poll, but an opening season 27-24 win over the then 15th ranked Pittsburgh Panthers then had two blowout victories over UNLV and New Mexico.
Looking at the NCAAF betting tips, the Utah Utes are 2-0-1 against the spread, with the push coming against Pittsburgh.
The Utes have yet to announce a starting quarterback for the game; Coach Kyle Whittingham knows but he isn’t tipping his hand to the Spartans giving San Jose State less time prep for who is under center.
Opening game starter Jordan Wynn lost a couple games with a thumb sprain but looks like he’s ready to go. If he stays on the bench, Terrance Cain will make his third start; Cain led the team to both blowout victories in games two and three.
NCAAF Betting Tips – The Spartans are 4-0 in their last four games versus the Mountain West Conference.
The San Diego State Spartans are 1-2 on the season and have the same record against the spread. Their two losses came against two of the best teams in the nation, the number one ranked Alabama and 12th ranked Wisconsin. The win came at the expense of Southern Utah of the NCAA’s second division.
Despite the winning against Southern Utah, the Spartans offense could only manage 250 yards and only converted 3 of 12 third down opportunities. The running game only managed 57 yards and a touchdown; the passing game threw for 193 yards without a TD pass.
NCAAF Betting Tips – The Spartans are just 4-17 ATS in their past 21 games against spread.
Utah’s defense ranks 19th overall against the run and total yards allowed, they’ve given up an average of 16 points a game but most of the points came against Pittsburgh. Regardless of who’s the under center for the Utes, they will put points on the board and the defense will keep the Spartans from finding the end zone.
NCAAF Betting Picks: Utah Utes -31½
