NCAAF Betting Preview – Utah vs. Oregon
September 19, 2009
Utah barely managed to escape with the nation’s longest winning streak when they survived San Jose State last weekend. They’ll get a much more difficult tilt when they battle the Ducks in some college betting action. The 18 th ranked Utes are the Cinderella story of 2008 and 2009. A mid-level program, with not too much talent, and an undefeated record is inching up the AP rankings. A victory over the Ducks would cement them as a legitimate force for contention, as well as a strong road dog bet.
Yet while the Utes are fifth in the league with 509.0 total yards per game, they’re running to a Ducks team that has a staggering number of betting trends. Oregon is 28-2 SU in non-conference matchups at home, and are 5-0 SU against ranked teams. They haven’t played Utah since 2003, and a 1-4 ATS home record recently has Ducks bettors worried that Utah will continue they’re somewhat miraculous run right over their team.
Utah Utes (2-0) vs. Oregon Ducks (1-1)
Saturday, September 19 th — Autzen Stadium, Eugene — 3:30pm EST
NCAAF Betting Line: Oregon -5 (54)
Utah has largely been disrespected by the oddsmakers for the last two seasons, and have gone 8-4 ATS on the road because of it. I don’t like this line for the Ducks, who already have a loss under their belt thanks to a 8-19 demolition by Boise. The Ducks are also without their main weapon, LeGarrette Blount, who inexplicably punched a defensive end of Boise State after he lost his cool. Now Blount is out of college ball, and threw his NFL dreams in the sewer. Unfortunately, any hopes for the Ducks went down the drain too.
The more I see of Terrance Cain, who has 534 yards on the season with three touchdowns and one pick, the more I like. You will too, if you side with Utah as a road dog this weekend. Take the UNDER as Oregon’s defense struggles mightily to contain the Cain and Utah, while stumbling in to offensive difficulties of their own. Utah’s defense has allowed an average of 15.5 points against this season.
