NCAAF Betting Lines – Bobcats Should Rout the Zips
October 16, 2010
According to the NCAAF betting point spread odds, the Ohio Bobcats should absolutely rout the Akron Zips this Saturday.
The Bobcats are -17 point NCAAF betting online favorites versus the 0 for 6 Zips. Ohio isn’t exactly a lock and put away team to back against the spread, however. The Bobcats are 3 and 3 on the season straight up and have lost 2 out of their 6 games ATS.

Are the Ohio Bobcats so much better, or the Akron Zips so much worse, than the other team that the 17-point against the spread line in this game is where it should be?

NCAAF Betting Lines
Akron Zips +17 -110
Ohio Bobcats -17 -110
The NCAAF betting game trends point to the Bobcats covering the spread in this.
- The Ohio Bobcats are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 conference games.
- The Ohio Bobcats are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games at home.
- The Akron Zips are 2 and 5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Ohio.
- The Akron Zips are 0 and 4 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS victory.
The Zips may be 0 and 6 and only 2 and 4 against the spread, but they are 2 and 1 ATS in their last 3 games played and the only game they didn’t cover the spread in was against Northern Illinois on the road.
It turns out that Northern Illinois is a very good team. The Huskies have gone 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 games and beat Minnesota straight up as 4-point NCAAF betting point spread dogs.
The Huskies also beat the highly regarded Temple Owls. If Akron’s only loss ATS in their last 3 games was to Northern Illinois, then they’re not playing horrible football.
The Zips held their own against both Indiana, in a 20 to 35 loss as 23-point dogs, and Kent State in a 17 to 28 loss as 17-point dogs. Those were qualify losses for Akron yet most football handicappers, 64%, believe that the Ohio Bobcats will cover the spread against Akron on Saturday. I’m not one of the 64%.
Ohio has been amazing on offense lately, scoring 79 points in their last 2 games, but their defense allows teams to score 23 points per game against them. That includes allowing Bowling Green to put up 25 and Eastern Michigan to put up 17.
Ohio is the better team in this game, but the Zips are due for some good luck and in their last game they actually played Kent State very, very tough.
I see Ohio cooling down just a tad after their 79-point explosion in their last 2 games. Just a tad is all it will take for the Zips to keep this game within the number. I’m going to make the Zips my NCAAF betting prediction to cover the spread in this game on Saturday.
NCAAF Betting Pick:
Akron Zips +17 -110
