NCAAF Betting – Back Notre Dame Against Boston College

October 2, 2010

When it comes to NCAAF betting against the spread, nothing gets easier than backing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to cover the spread versus Boston College this Saturday, Oct. 2nd.

The Fighting Irish have lost 3 straight games after beating Purdue 23 to 12 in Week 1.  Notre Dame is 1 and 3 both straight up and ATS, but they should be able to win their second game of the 2010 NCAAF Season this Saturday.

Winning is one thing, but covering a spread is another.  Does Notre Dame have a good shot of covering the NCAAF betting point spread as road favorites versus Boston College this Saturday?

NCAAF Betting Lines

Notre Dame Fighting Irish                              -2 ½ -110

Boston College Eagles                                    +2 ½ -110

The NCAAF betting online trends favor the Eagles to cover the spread in this game.

  • The Underdog is 6 and 1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
  • The Boston College Golden Eagles are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game.
  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is 3 and 7 ATS in their last 10 games versus a team from the ACC.
  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is 1 and 10 ATS in their last 11 games as the favorite.

I’m not paying attention to any of the NCAAF betting game predictions trends.  Notre Dame could just as easily be 3 and 1 this season straight up as 1 and 3.  The Fighting Irish lost an excruciatingly close game to Michigan 24 to 28.

Then, a week later, the Golden Domers dropped a game to Michigan State in overtime 31 to 34.  Notre Dame had their chances in both of those games.  The Fighting Irish can be forgiven for their 14 to 37 loss to Stanford this past Saturday because Stanford is one of the best teams in college football.

So, it makes sense that Notre Dame is an NCAAF betting lines favorite in the sportsbook versus Boston College.  Will they cover the spread?

Absolutely, they will.  Notre Dame has had a rough start to the season, but they aren’t a bad team.  Boston College is the worst team that they’ve faced since Purdue in Week 1.  Michigan, Michigan State and Stanford are all ranked while Boston College probably isn’t close to being a solid ACC contender much less a ranked team.

BC hasn’t covered an NCAAF expert line all season.  The Eagles were favored by 30 points over Weber State in Week 1 and could only muster a 38 to 20 victory.  Against Kent State in Week 2, they failed to cover a 17-point spread in a 26 to 13 victory.  Then, against Virginia Tech last Saturday, BC didn’t even get on the board in a 0 to 19 loss as 3 ½ point dogs.  The loss so infuriated head coach Frank Spaziani that he’s switching QB’s this Saturday to Chase Rettig.

Notre Dame is a team that’s desperate for a victory after playing their guts out in their past 2 games only to see their efforts go for naught.  The Golden Domers are a solid squad.  They’re going to prove it this Saturday by trouncing Boston College on the road.

I feel that Irish coach Brian Kelly is going to pull out all of the stops this Saturday and that Notre Dame will easily cover the NCAAF betting odds in this game.
