NCAAB MACC Conference Update

December 15, 2008

1: Niagara Purple Eagles (7-1 ATS, 7-2 SU) (LW: 1) The Purple Eagles made a huge statement for the MAAC this week by beating Big East reps South Florida 70-55 as short underdogs. Their four game road trip continues this week at Drexel.

This Week: Away @ Drexel

2: Iona Gaels (3-1 ATS, 4-5 SU) (LW: 3) There was no sports betting action for Gaels bettors this week, but Iona picked up a pair of out-of-conference victories over Long Island and St. Francis. The Gaels will be on the road the rest of the calendar year, including a pair of rough roadies this week.

This Week: Away @ Western Michigan, Away @ Ohio State

3: Manhattan Jaspers (3-2 ATS, 5-3 SU) (LW: 2) Manhattan came awfully close to covering the dozen points against Princeton this week, but never quite got over the hump in its 70-60 victory. This week is a “Bracket Buster” rematch from a year ago against Binghamton, a team the Jaspers lost 66-56 to last season.

This Week: Away @ Binghamton

4: Siena Saints (2-3-1 ATS, 5-3 SU) (LW: 4) Though all looked lost for Siena bettors that laid the 17 points against Marist at halftime, a 38-23 2nd half salvaged the push. In all but two games this year, the Saints have reached the 70-point plateau and they’ll need all those points to hang with the Pitt Panthers this week.

This Week: Away @ Pittsburgh

5: Canisius Golden Griffins (2-3 ATS, 3-6 SU) (LW: 6) Good thing there wasn’t a line on Saturday’s game against the Great Danes as Albany handed Canisius a 74-46 whooping. The defeat was the third straight for the Griffs who were outscored by an average of 23.3 points per game during that stretch.

This Week: Away @ Syracuse, Home vs. Navy

6: Rider Broncs (1-2 ATS, 5-2 SU) (LW: 8) Rider picked up a 66-54 victory over Monmouth last week but still didn’t give much of an indicator as to how good this team really is. La Salle should provide a more reasonable test this week.

This Week: Away @ La Salle, Home vs. NJIT

7: Marist Red Foxes (2-4-1 ATS, 3-6 SU) (LW: 5) It was a bad week to be a Red Fox. After losing 77-60 to Siena, the team came home and was blasted by Cleveland State 66-47. Marist has only mustered an average of 56.4 points its L/5 games.

This Week: Away @ St. John’s

8: St. Peters Peacocks (1-3 ATS, 3-6 SU) (LW: 7) The Peacocks hung tough with Seton Hall but came up narrowly short of covering the 12-point spread in the 60-46 defeat. Offensively, the team was a wreck this week only scoring 97 total points in two games. To date they’re only averaging 57.0 points per game good for the 322nd best mark in the country.

This Week: Away @ Monmouth

9: Fairfield Stags (2-6 ATS, 8-3 SU) (LW: 9) Better times have to be on the horizon for Fairfield ncaab bettors who dropped three straight spreads as favorites in spite of winning all three games last week. They’ve averaged losing to the spread by just over three points per game of late and have a week to prepare for a long road trip ahead.

This Week: Bye

10: Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds (0-5 ATS, 3-7 SU) (LW: 10) The Pups snapped their four-game skid by beating Coppin State 73-70 in an unlined game last week, although there’s still a lot of work to be done. There is a painful road trip on deck to UC-Davis this week and things are much worse after the holidays when they make a mini-ACC road trip through Tobacco Road.

This Week: Away @ UC-Davis
