NCAAB Big East Power Poll
December 16, 2008
1: Pittsburgh Panthers (3-1-1 ATS, 10-0 SU) (LW: 3) Pitt’s now a perfect 10-0 after dismantling Maryland-Baltimore County 91-56 this week. The Panthers should move to 11-0 with ease against Siena, but a trip to Tallahassee against the Seminoles could be a tough non-conference test.
This Week: Home vs. Siena, Away @ Florida State
2: Seton Hall Pirates (4-2 ATS, 8-1 SU) (LW: 6) The Hall took advantage of a bunch of Big East blunders last week to move up to the #2 spot in this week’s poll. They handled their business last week beating both St. Peters and Cal Baptist with ease, and should have another cakewalk this week against Indiana-Purdue.
This Week: Home vs. Indiana-Purdue
3: South Florida Bulls (4-2 ATS, 3-4 SU) (LW: 2) No team was more embarrassing in the Big East last week than South Florida, which lost to Niagara 70-55 at home. It was the third straight non-conference defeat for the Bulls, who have a loaded slate of non-conference showdowns this upcoming week.
This Week: Away @ Vanderbilt, Away @ Murray State
4: Louisville Cardinals (4-3 ATS, 6-1 SU) (LW: 1) The Cards might’ve picked up a pair of wins this week, but 20+ point spreads in both games were too much for their sports betting fans to handle. They’ll conclude a five-game home stand this week against Ole Miss before hitting the road to take on a frisky undefeated Golden Gophers squad.
This Week: Home vs. Mississippi, Away @ Minnesota
5: Villanova Wildcats (4-4 ATS, 10-1 SU) (LW: 5) Nova rebounded from the loss to Texas by beating both St. Joes and LaSalle last week, and both performances were impressive on the defensive side of the floor. The Wildcats have held six of their L/8 opponents under 60 points.
This Week: Off
6: Georgetown Hoyas (3-2 ATS, 7-1 SU) (LW:
Georgetown got a *wink, wink* cover it didn’t necessarily deserve by beating Memphis on a fluke last second heave into the air to beat the six-point spread. Crushing Savannah State 100-38 is impressive though, as that’s the same team that almost took Michigan down in Ann Arbor a couple weeks ago.
This Week: Home vs. Mount St. Mary’s
7: Cincinnati Bearcats (2-2 ATS, 6-2 SU) (LW: 4) The ‘X’ men dumped Cincy 76-66 last week, adding another smudge to the Bearcats’ resume. Amends can be made this week with three relatively weak games that should help prep the squad for the showdown with Memphis and the pending Big East slate.
This Week: Home vs. Charleston Southern, Home vs. Mississippi State, Home vs. Eastern Kentucky
8: Connecticut Huskies (2-2 ATS, 8-0 SU) (LW: 7) UConn had a week off, and will now have one more tune-up game before heading West to do battle with the Zags in a critical non-conference early season showdown. It’ll only be the second away game of the season for the Huskies.
This Week: Home vs. Stony Brook, Away @ Gonzaga
And the rest…
9: Syracuse Orange (3-4 ATS, 9-1 SU) (LW: 10)
10: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-2 ATS, 7-3 SU) (LW: 9)
11: Marquette Golden Eagles (2-3 ATS, 8-1 SU) (LW: 11)
12: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-3 ATS, 7-2 SU) (LW: 13)
13: St. John’s Red Storm (1-1-1 ATS, 8-1 SU) (LW: 14)
14: West Virginia Mountaineers (2-3 ATS, 7-2 SU) (LW: 12)
15: Providence Friars (2-5 ATS, 6-3 SU) (LW: 15)
16: DePaul Blue Demons (0-5 ATS, 4-4 SU) (LW: 16)
