NCAAB Betting – Wager on the Mountain West Conference Tournament
March 9, 2011
With two teams in the Top 10 for most of the season, the Mountain West has been an NCAAB Betting hot spot for bettors all season.
But who’ll win the postseason tournament? Let’s take a look.
San Diego State (+120): Heading into the Mountain West Tournament, there’s still an outside chance that with a victory here San Diego State can still get an NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed. Think they’ll have plenty to play for in the NCAAB Betting?
And as has been the case all year, this club will go as far as forward Kawhi Leonard takes them. Leonard is a silky smooth 6’7 forward, equally comfortable playing on the perimeter or post, and a guy who led this Aztecs team with 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, the Aztecs are also one of the most experienced teams in college basketball, with seniors D.J. Gay (3.4 assists a game) and Malcolm Thomas (8.4 rebounds) leading them as well.
Also don’t forget, no one enters the Mountain West Conference Tournament hotter than the Aztecs, who won their last two games by a combined 45 points.
BYU (+150): Despite winning the Mountain West regular season crown, the BYU Cougars enter this tournament as slight underdogs.
And truthfully, the reason is simple: They’ll be without suspended forward Brandon Davies the rest of the year. Davies is a senior who was kicked off this club for an honor code violation last week, who also doubled as this team’s leading rebounder. Not good.
Still, the Cougars could very easily be the NCAAB Betting favorites based on who else they have, mainly guard Jimmer Fredette. The All-American led the country in scoring at over 27 per game, and has had at least 33 points in three of his last four games. Backcourt mate Jackson Emery adds 12 points per game as well.
This BYU team is skilled and experienced. Even without Davies, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
UNLV (+175): When looking at the NCAAB Betting odds, many might be surprised that the UNLV Rebels are right in the mix with San Diego State and BYU as favorites. Then again the Rebels have one advantage that neither of those clubs do: The home court advantage.
You read that correctly, as this year’s Mountain West Tournament will be played at the Thomas and Mack Center right in Las Vegas, a place the Rebels went 11-4 this year.
They’ve also got maybe the best backcourt of anyone around, with Chace Stanback, Tre’Von Willis, Oscar Bellfield and Anthony Marshall all playing at least 26 minutes and averaging 9.9 points per game.
It won’t be easy for the Rebels to win this tournament, but is wagering against them on their home court a smart NCAAB Betting move?
New Mexico (+600): Finally, at +600 Steve Alford’s New Mexico club is a dark horse to take home this crown. And while they’re odds might be long, the chances of them pulling an upset might not be as bad as you’d think. They were the only team in Mountain West play this season to beat BYU at full strength.
Here are the rest of the teams vying for a Mountain West Championship in the NCAAB Betting Odds:
Colorado State (+1000)
Air Force (+5000)
Utah (+5000)
TCU (+10,000)
Wyoming (+10,000)
