NCAAB Betting Picks in the SEC – Florida-Georgia, Auburn-Arkansas

January 25, 2011

The Florida Gators have been an afterthought in NCAAB betting picks since the days of Joakim Noah and Al Horford, but this season they’re holding off Kentucky and Georgia in the SEC’s East Division for now. Coming off perhaps one of their best games yet, Florida will need to keep the forward momentum as they visit the home of the Bulldogs.

Leaning on the Gators in NCAAB betting picks hasn’t been an easy task this year. They’re 15-4 SU, but are just 5-8 ATS this entire season.

Part of that has to do with the fact that they’re seriously overvalued at home, where they’re just 2-6 ATS. They’re marginally better on the road at 3-2 ATS when travelling.

They’re also pretty darn good when playing the Georgia Bulldogs. In their past 10 meetings with Georgia, Florida has gone 8-2 SU and 6-4 ATS. If you focus on games at Stegeman Coliseum then Florida is also a stiff 8-4 ATS in their last 12 visits.

#24 Florida Gators (15-4) vs. Georgia Bulldogs (14-4)

Tuesday, January 25th — Stegeman Coliseum — 7:00pm EST

NCAAB Betting Line: Georgia -2.5

However, long term betting trends do little to erase what happened in this matchup last season when Florida visited Georgia. Forward Trey Thompkins leads all Bulldogs with 17.4 points per game and 1.6 blocks, but also dropped 44 points on Florida’s face in last year’s meeting. Georgia won that game 78-76.

I usually encourage bets on any team that plays definitively better in the paint than their in-conference opponents. Georgia is that team in the SEC. They’ve been controlling the pace of games close to the rim with high percentage shots and great rebounding. They may be just 3-2 SU in their last 5 games, but they’re also 4-1 ATS in NCAAB betting picks during that same stretch of contests.

Florida is a good team, but Georgia has simply been much more consistent. This will be a tough task for Florida, and I’ll give credit to the Bulldogs for being pretty strong in their own building. Florida may be building towards something admirable, but until I see it on a consistent basis, I’m still betting against them in my NCAAB betting picks.

Auburn Tigers +14.5 over ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS

This is actually a rough edged number for me. The Crimson Tide are winless in their past 5 games, but have also managed to go 3-2 ATS during that run. They’re getting blown out, but not by crazy amounts and it’s not like Arkansas has been that good. In fact, Arkansas is just 3-6 ATS this entire season. Add that to Auburn’s 7-2-1 ATS record in the last 9 games against Arkansas and you have a solid NCAAB betting pick in your hands.
