NCAAB Betting – Get Into The Action With Championship Week!
March 2, 2011
Don’t let the old jingle fool you, because for College Basketball Betting enthusiasts, this really is the “Most wonderful time of the year!” It’s Championship Week! And over 300 NCAA Division I basketball teams are vying for one of 68 spots in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
What are some things to keep an eye out on? Let’s take a look:
Which Small School Is This Year’s Butler?: While Butler’s run to last year’s National Championship Game may have been a surprise to you, NCAAB Betting experts saw it coming from a mile away, as the Bulldogs were one of the favorites of bettors all season long. So who is this year’s version of Butler?
How about their conference rivals Cleveland State? The Vikings finished the regular season atop the Horizon League standings at 25-7 overall and 13-13-2 ATS and have one of the best players no one in the country knows about, Norris Cole. The senior is putting up stats that would make any college basketball betting fan drool, as he’s averaging 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and over two steals a game. In their Horizon League tournament opener on Tuesday night Cole was again outstanding, putting up 26 points in a win over Illinois-Chicago.
The Vikings are a very dangerous team to keep an eye on during Championship Week.
How Many Bids Will The Big East Get?: Sure the action in the Big East Tournament doesn’t kick off until next Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start guessing how many teams get into the Big Dance, can we?
It seems like, as things stand right now, eight are locks: Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Louisville, St. John’s, Syracuse, Georgetown, UConn and Villanova, with West Virginia, Cincinnati and Marquette all battling things out for the other spots. Of those remaining three, West Virginia seems to have the best shot, with the Golden Eagles of Marquette in the worst shape. They are just 18-11 overall, but are still a sportsbook favorite, going 14-9 against the spread.
There’s still a lot to get figured out come Championship Week, but the Big East bubble picture is definitely one of the most intriguing storylines.
Who’ll Get The No. 1 Seeds?: Much like the Big East bubble picture, Championship Week is going to go a long way in determining who’ll end up with the No. 1 seeds.
No one is safe, but with both Ohio State and Kansas sitting with 27-2 records, they seem most likely to get one.
After that though is anyone’s guess, as Pitt, Duke, BYU and maybe even San Diego State are vying for those spots. In the last couple weeks Texas has played themselves out of a perceived No. 1.
