NCAAB Bets – Duke Highlights Thursday’s Schedule
January 27, 2011
There isn’t a ton of action on Thursday night’s NCAAB Bets schedule, but of the few games available, there are some good ones.
Both Duke and Illinois highlight things, as each looks to take another step toward a high NCAA Tournament seeding.
Boston College Eagles (14-6 SU, 8-8 ATS) at No. 3 Duke Blue Devils (18-1 SU, 10-8 ATS)

Betting Odds:
Boston College: +17
Duke: -17
Starting with the Duke Blue Devils, they return to the cozy confines of Cameron Indoor Stadium, after a two game road-trip. But just because they’re at home doesn’t guarantee they’ll cover the NCAAB Bets point spread. They’re just 5-5 against the spread at home this year.
Still, if they play like they did Saturday at Wake Forest, this team should be in for a dominating victory. In that game, the Blue Devils were hot from start to finish, scoring 41 first half points and cruising to an 83-59 victory. Kyle Singler, Ryan Kelly and Nolan Smith each had at least 19 points in the win.
As for Boston College, the Eagles are playing well in Steve Donahue’s first year as head coach, but have hit a snag lately. They’re just 1-2 straight up in their last three games.
They were especially embarrassing in a loss over the weekend to Florida State, when the Eagles shot just 35 percent from the field in a loss.
And for all the talk about Duke’s offense, it’s their defense that’ll carry them to an NCAAB Bets win on Thursday.
The Blue Devils have one of the total field goal percentage defenses in the country, allowing opponents to hit just 39 percent from the field which ranks them 33rd nationally. Going against a Boston College team struggling to hit shots, they should be in for a comfortable victory.
NCAAB Bets Pick: Duke – 17
No. 21 Illinois Fighting Illini (14-6 SU, 10-10 ATS) at Indiana Hoosiers (10-10 SU, 6-8 ATS)
Thursday, January 27: 9:00 p.m. Big Ten Network
Betting Odds:
Illinois: -4
Indiana: +4
In the second half of the NCAAB Bets schedule, we travel to Bloomington, IN, where the Indiana Hoosiers will host the up-and-down Illinois Fighting Illini.
Really, that’s the best way to describe this Illinois squad: Up and down. A week ago they dominated Michigan State on their home-court, 71-62, before losing to Ohio State over the weekend. While the final score of 73-68 shows that it was a close game, Illinois had things in control, and blew chances to steal the upset.
And with that said, we’re afraid they might have a bit of a hangover heading into this one.
The truth is, the Illini did in fact have chances to upset the No. 1 team in the country, and actually trailed by just one with 19 seconds to go, before a costly turnover hindered their upset bid. We’re just concerned if they’ll be ready to play here, against a pesky Indiana squad that’s returning home after back-to-back road games.
Don’t be surprised if an upset happens here, but even if it doesn’t Indiana will keep this game close. They’ll do enough to cover the point spread in the NCAAB Bets.
NCAAB Bets: Indiana +4
