NCAAB ACC Power Poll

December 15, 2008

1: Florida State Seminoles (5-1 ATS, 9-1 SU) (LW: 1) By no means was it a work of art, but the Noles scalped Georgia State 62-57 to narrowly cover the 4.5-point spread last week. A pair of cupcakes are on the horizon this week, so don’t expect FSU to fall to far before the holidays.

This Week: Home vs. Tennessee Tech, Home vs. Charleston Southern

2: North Carolina State Wolfpack (2-1 ATS, 5-1 SU) (LW: 3) The game may not have featured a sports betting line, but if NC State’s tussle with Winston-Salem was lined, Wolfpack bettors would’ve been at the window to cash their tickets by halftime. NCSU dropped the Rams by four touchdowns, and have scored at least 74 points in all but one of their home games this season. They don’t leave the RBC Center again until after the New Year.

This Week: Home vs. East Carolina, Home vs. Lipscomb

3: North Carolina Tar Heels (4-3 ATS, 9-0 SU) (LW: 2) When you’re at the top of the mountain everyone gives you their best shot, so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that Oral Roberts only lost to the Heels by 16 as 36-point underdogs in Chapel Hill. The #1 team in the land will get a few more stern out of conference tests to end ’08 before stepping into conference play.

This Week: Home vs. Evansville, Away @ Valparaiso

4: Duke Blue Devils (5-4 ATS, 8-1 SU) (LW: 5) The Dookies were off last week. They are a perfect 5-0 SU but only 2-3 ATS at Cameron Indoor this year despite scoring at least 78 points in each of the five games. Expect to see those numbers improve this week against UNC Ashville before a big resume-building game against Xavier.

This Week: Home vs. UNC Ashville, Away @ Xavier

5: Boston College Eagles (4-3 ATS, 6-2 SU) (LW: 6) Truth be told, Eagles bettors probably would’ve felt a little bit better had BC knocked off South Carolina Upstate and Bryant by more than an average of 15.5 points per game, but at least they were victories and the games weren’t lined. They will return to NCAAB betting action this week when the Friars pay a visit to Chestnut Hill where the Eagles will hope to avenge last season’s 98-89 loss.

This Week: Home vs. Providence

6: Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-3 ATS, 9-0 SU) (LW: 4) There were some tense moments against Wright State, but in the end, the Deacs picked up their ninth victory of the season 66-53. They never threatened the three-touchdown spread, and will take to the true road for the first time this week. In neutral site games, Wake is 2-0 SU, but 0-2 ATS.

This Week: Away @ Richmond

7: Maryland Terrapins (3-2-1 ATS, 7-2 SU) (LW: 10) The Terps pounded Delaware State 86-58 this week, proposing the question of just how good this squad really is. They were crushed by Georgetown and Gonzaga but now have started building some impressive victories. The Maryland mystery probably won’t be solved soon, as there are no challenges left on the slate until a week into ’09.

This Week: Bye

8: Miami Hurricanes (3-2 ATS, 7-2 SU) (LW: 9) Save for acceptable losses to Ohio State and UConn, the Canes have been a solid ball club early this season. They picked up a pair of wins this week including their 76-50 drubbing over FIU as 23-point home favorites. ACC play starts up this week with a visit from Clemson.

This Week: Home vs. Clemson

And the rest…

9: Clemson Tigers (3-3 ATS, 10-0 SU) (LW: 7)

10: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-2 ATS, 5-2 SU) (LW: 8)

11: Virginia Tech Hokies (2-4 ATS, 6-4 SU) (LW: 11)

12: Virginia Cavaliers (1-2 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 12)
