NCAA Tournament Betting: Players to Watch in the Final

April 17, 2010

The National Champions will be crowned in NCAA Tournament betting on Monday night, and here at BetOnline Sportsbook, we’ve got our watchful eye on which players could be considered MVP candidates to lead their team to a title.

F Kyle Singler, Duke Blue Devils: Singler proved that last weekend’s 0/10 shooting performance against Baylor was nothing more than a fluke. He put up 21 points on 8/16 shooting against West Virginia on Saturday night, and if he can put forth a similar effort against the Bulldogs, it’s going to be hard to see how the Horizon League champs are going to avoid getting run over by the blue and white truck that’s already claimed five other foes in this tournament.

G Nolan Smith, Duke Blue Devils: Singler may be the X-Factor for the Dookies, but the most consistent scoring option that this team has right now is Nolan Smith. Unlike Singler and G Jon Scheyer, whom we will discuss in a moment, Smith hasn’t really had an off night in recent weeks for Coach K. He has averaged 18.6 points per game in this tournament and has scored in double digits in every game since a dud at Virginia on February 28th. Since that point, he has dropped an average of 17.6 points per game, and the Dookies are 6-3 against the ncaa basketball betting lines.

F Gordon Hayward, Butler Bulldogs: If Butler happens to pull the NCAA Tournament betting upset and get crowned champions, there’s almost no doubt that Hayward will be named the tourney’s MVP. He is averaging 16.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in the dance to this point, and has been the only constant on a team that hasn’t gotten a ton of offensive production. Hayward has arguably had his three best games of the season on college basketball’s biggest stage scoring 17 against Syracuse, 22 against Kansas State, and now 19 against Michigan State; his toughest three foes of the season.

G Jon Scheyer, Duke Blue Devils: If Smith is the scorer, and Singler is the X-Factor, than Scheyer is the leader of the Blue Devils. It always seems as though it is Scheyer that wants to step up and take the big shot to cap a huge run or to help put a team away for the Dookies. It’s clear that the ACC Champions wouldn’t be at this stage of the game without the way Scheyer has played over the last few games, as he’s scored at least 18 points in his L/3 games (in which the Dookies are a perfect 3-0 ATS).

G Ronald Nored, Butler Bulldogs: Nored may be the man that you’ve never really paid any attention to for the Bulldogs, but may be called on for some huge minutes if F Matt Howard and G Shelvin Mack either can’t play or are limited due to their injuries suffered against Michigan State. Ironically, the L/3 times that Nored scored in double digits in a game though, the Bulldogs have failed to cover the spread. In the NCAA Tournament, he has done a tad bit of everything, scoring 6.8 points, dishing out 3.8 assists, picking up 3.6 rebounds, and stealing 3.0 balls per night.
