NCAA Sports Betting – Ohio State Clinging To Ranking Against Purdue
October 23, 2010
If there’s any phrase that captured just how the Ohio State Buckeyes fared in the rankings of the NCAA football betting scene its, “OOOOOOHHHHH how the mighty have fallen!”
Now don’t get me wrong. I’ve been making a lot of money on the 5-2 ATS Buckeyes this season, and it’s evident the pollsters had it out for Ohio State when they dropped them from first to eleventh after losing to Wisconsin.

Which, to me, is wildly unfair. The Buckeyes are just 6-1 SU and have had a difficult schedule thus far. To climb back in to the polls, they’ll need to post big victories. That’s why you should fear the lives of the Purdue Boilermakers in NCAA sports betting this weekend where they face a -23.5 point handicap against the Buckeyes.
The question remains just how much the loss to Wisconsin has galvanized Ohio State. An offense that racks up 39.6 points per game and only gives up 16.0 is a dangerous bet, and you can rest assured that Ohio State is ready to blow the roof of their own house while keeping their fingers crossed that another big team in the rankings blows their perfect record.
The most vulnerable teams ahead of Ohio State are Boise State (6-0), TCU (7-0), LSU (7-0) and Utah (6-0). Should any of those teams blunder over the weekend, Ohio State will jump in the ranking. That is, of course, if they can beat the Purdue Boilermakers.
Purdue Boilermakers (4-2)vs. #11 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1)
Saturday, October 23rd — Ohio Stadium — 12:00pm EST
NCAA football Betting Line: Ohio State -23.5 (47.5)
Purdue has been woeful against the betting line this season, with a 2-3 ATS record this season. While they were able to get back on the horse against Northwester and Minnesota, that’s nothing for a program like Purdue to be proud of.
Historically, they’ve been cagey at covering against Ohio State despite the fact that the Buckeyes are 7-3 SU in their last 10 meetings dating back to 1996. The Boilermakers are 6-4 ATS when playing Ohio State during that same run of games. In fact, they’re 6-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
That doesn’t negate the fact that both Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeyes need a huge win this weekend to offset the sting of their 18-31 defeat at the hands of Wisconsin. The Buckeyes are a mortal lock at home, going 5-0 SU in their house, and are 12-1 SU overall.
Nothing about Purdue makes me want to trust them. Ohio State will enter this game with a crusading amount of zeal while their defense makes up for the gaffe last weekend against Purdue’s 87 ranked offense. Don’t be scared of the points. You can’t ignore how motivated the Buckeyes will be in this game, especially with a big number on the NCAA football betting line.
NCAA Sports Betting Pick: Ohio State -23.5 (UNDER)
