NCAA Proposition Betting – Connecticut vs Rutgers
October 8, 2010
Those who like to do NCAA betting proposition will like what they see in the game between Connecticut and Rutgers, because some of the skill players on the U-Conn side have been putting up some impressive numbers.
As for the Rutgers guys – well, not so much. These teams clash on Friday night at Rutgers Stadium (artificial turf) in new Brunswick, NJ, with Connecticut a five-point favorite.
In one of the proposition bets offered, the over-under on yardage for Husky receiver Michael Smith is 62.5 yards (-115 either way). Watch the game on ESPN.

Well, I guess I have to fit my proposition betting selections in with my general story of how I think this game is going to go. I am looking at this as a game where Rutgers,. which is seventh in the nation in stopping the run, has to make a defensive stand.
And since the Scarlet Knights themselves are liable to have a problem or two in their red zone offense, and I say that only because they already have, I think field goal is a very strong candidate here. I think the Huskies are going to be surprised at how tough the yards are going to be to come by.
JAY’S PLAY: ANY OTHER +190
——————————-
MICHAEL SMITH TOTAL RECEIVING YARDS
Over 62½ Yards -115
Under 62½ Yards -115
I’m not sure how often Connecticut quarterbacks Andres and/or Frazer are going to go to the air, but when they do this is the first guy they are going to look for. Smith has averaged 74.6 yards a game in receptions, and he has gone over the total that is posted in this proposition bet in four of U-Conn’s five games.
The only game where he had short numbers was in the 62-3 blowout against Texas Southern, and it was understandable why he was held back.
JAY’S PLAY: OVER 62.5 YARDS (-115) ***
——————————-
MOHAMED SANU TOTAL RUSHING YARDS
Over 49½ Yards -115
Under 49½ Yards -115
This particular proposition betting exercise is a bit tricky. Rutgers, as most people know, has been having some problems on offense. Sanu is the team’s leading rusher, with a little over 56 yards per game, but he’s gone over the 50-yard mark only once, and it was in the last game against Tulane, when he ran nine times for 121 yards.
Sanu has been put in this position because Joe Martinek, who had been the featured back and ran for 109 yards against Norfolk State in the opener, has had ankle problems.
Rutgers’ tattered situation at quarterback will probably cause them to rely on the ground game more, which means that this sophomore, who had 148 yards last season when Rutgers played Louisville, will get more opportunities than usual.
JAY’S PLAY: OVER 49.5 YARDS (-115) ***
