With only two losses on the season, to rivals Texas and Kansas State, the Jayhawks have proven to be an elite team so far this season. Kansas won the Big 12 regular season and enters this tournament with the top seed. They will be a menacing foe for the Cowboys, no matter how pumped up Oklahoma State may be.
Stats:
-Kansas has won 13 of its 14 first-round games, only losing to Baylor last season.
-Kansas defeated Oklahoma State earlier this season 92-65.
In the matchup earlier this season, the Jayhawks dominated the Cowboys. However, after this loss, the Cowboys regrouped and managed to win three of their next four games, including the first-round win over the Cornhuskers. However, such a tight and exhilarating win as the one over Nebraska won’t get Oklahoma State very far against one of the best offenses in the country.
The mindset of Kansas is to dominate the Big 12 Tournament to get ready for the real tournament, the one in which they hope to advance deep after their disappointing finish last season. The game may be a first-half battle, but expect the Jayhawks to put their poise and skill together to pull away in the second half.
The spread for this game is hovering between 14 and 17 points. Kansas won by 27 points in the prior matchup, although in Lawrence. Expect a bigger fight tonight by Oklahoma State, but I wouldn’t count on the Cowboys to come within more than ten points of the dynamic Jayhawks!
