NCAA Hoops Power Poll – SEC Conference
January 7, 2009
1: Auburn Tigers (7-1 ATS, 10-4 SU) (LW: 1) Auburn is out of the blocks with guns blazing for its sports betting fans after pounding Tulane 78-53 last week. Will SEC play be more difficult? The Tigers put their spotless ATS mark on the line this week in Columbia.
This Week: Away @ South Carolina
2: Arkansas Razorbacks (4-1 ATS, 11-1 SU) (LW: 3) After opening up ’08 with a dud, the Backs moved to a perfect 4-0 ATS with wins over North Texas and Oklahoma. They already upset the Sooners, so are the Longhorns the next to fall in Fayetteville?
This Week: Home vs. Texas, Home vs. Mississippi State
3: Kentucky Wildcats (6-3-1 ATS, 11-4 SU) (LW: 5) Few teams in the SEC are hotter for basketball bettors than the Wildcats right now. They picked up a pair of ATS victories over Central Michigan and Louisville to close out the non-conference slate, and have now rolled off five out of six wins both SU and ATS.
This Week: Home vs. Vanderbilt
4: Tennessee Volunteers (5-4-1 ATS, 9-3 SU) (LW: 4) Kansas was just too much for the Vols to handle last week in a 92-85 loss. They’re spotless so far this year in Rocky Top though, so the Zags are on upset alert.
This Week: Home vs. Gonzaga, Away @ Georgia
5: Vanderbilt Commodores (6-5 ATS, 11-3 SU) (LW: 7) A 78-48 win in Massachusetts should provide a huge boost for the Commodores in their run towards March Madness. Next week’s game at Kentucky will feature a pair of teams that could be scratching at the tournament’s bubble by March, and both teams are hot. Vandy has won six straight and is 3-1 ATS in that stretch.
This Week: Away @ Kentucky
6: LSU Tigers (3-2 ATS, 12-1 SU) (LW: 2) Shame on the Tigers for needing to hold off Louisiana-Lafayette with an 81-79 win as hefty favorites. They’ve yet to play a true road game this season, so a trip to Utah could be a real rude awakening for a young LSU squad before kicking off SEC play.
This Week: Away @ Utah, Away @ Alabama
7: Mississippi Rebels (5-5 ATS, 9-5 SU) (LW: 6) The string of alternating wins and losses continued for the Rebels last week with a loss against Southern Miss followed by a win over Nichols State. That’s good news for Gators bettors…
This Week: Away @ Florida
8: Alabama Crimson Tide (4-4 ATS, 9-4 SU) (LW: 9) The Tide roll into the Top-8 after beating Georgia Tech 88-77 and improving to .500 ATS. Much like LSU, Alabama has yet to face a true road test this year, so a trip to Littlejohn to take on the Tigers is going to be incredibly difficult.
This Week: Away @ Clemson, Home vs. LSU
And the rest…
9: Georgia Bulldogs (3-4-1 ATS, 9-5 SU) (LW: 11)
10: South Carolina Gamecocks (3-4 ATS, 10-2 SU) (LW:
11: Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-4-1 ATS, 9-5 SU) (LW: 10)
12: Florida Gators (2-6 ATS, 12-2 SU) (LW: 12)
