NCAA Heisman Hopefuls – Colt McCoy of Texas
September 8, 2009
Most of the time fiction represents reality. For instance, sports movies often represent what has already happened, think Raging Bull with Robert DeNiro.
When it comes to college football betting, often time’s fiction and reality are the same thing. The assumption in college football betting before the season started was that the Oklahoma Sooners were a good enough team to get past their offensive line issues. The assumption was fiction. The reality in college football betting regarding the Sooners was that they were going to beat the BYU Cougars by 21 ½ points. It turns out that the reality of the wagering spread was based on the fiction regarding the Sooners’ offensive line, that its issues wouldn’t matter.
In a sense the Texas Longhorns quarterback, Colt McCoy, is a both reality and fiction. He’s fiction because he’s as close to a Friday Night Light’s quarterback as you are likely to find. He’s reality because, well, he’s good. McCoy is 6’ 2” 210 pounds, was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, and attended Jim Ned High School in Tuscaloosa, Texas.
He also threw for 3,859 yards and 34 touchdowns with only 8 interceptions in 2008. Will Colt McCoy do the same in 2009 and if he does, how will it affect college football betting regarding Longhorn games? Let’s take a look at some key games and make a few predictions for Colt McCoy this year.
Sept. 19th – - Texas Tech vs. Texas – - McCoy will have a field day against the Red Raiders who are rebuilding in 2009. Expect Colt to throw for around 4 to 5 touchdown passes and over 400 yards. The Longhorns should crush the Red Raiders. So, forget about making a wager on the BetOnline Total and instead put money on the Longhorns to cover the spread.
Oct. 17th – - Texas vs. Oklahoma - – Successful college football betting requires being able to pick out games like this year’s Red River Shoot-out and making it a key game. Oklahoma has no chance against Texas in this game with or without Sam Bradford. That Sooner offensive line is mush. Colt will outshine his best friend, Bradford, and put up amazing numbers. This sets up as another Texas victory ATS.
Oct. 31st – - Texas vs. Oklahoma State – - This will be the game to decide who is tops in the Big 12. Oklahoma State has a good offense with Dez Bryant catching passes and their defense is solid as well. Colt won’t be on fire in this game even though he could put up at least 300 yards passing and one or two touchdowns. In regards to college football betting, look to wager on the under in this game as both teams have solid defenses.
Nov. 21st – - Kansas vs. Texas – - McCoy is going to go nuts in this game. If he’s healthy at this point in the season, shouts of “Heisman! Heisman! Heisman!” will reverberate throughout the stadium, as Colt throws for at least four touchdown passes and runs another one in. Kansas will be tough in this game as well. So, smart college football betting will more than likely require a wager over the BetOnline Total in this game.
