NCAA Football Line on North Carolina vs. #25 Miami

The NCAA football line on the North Carolina vs. Miami game this Saturday, Oct. 23rd, gives the nod to the Miami Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are a close to -7 point favorite in the sportsbook to beat North Carolina, but the Tar Heels, under new coach Butch Davis, have proven to be a tough team to handle this season.  Even though North Carolina has suspended numerous players for the season, they have maintained an ability to win games and to cover NCAA football line spreads throughout the season.

The NCAA football line trends favor the Tar Heels in this game.

• The North Carolina Tar Heels are 6 and 1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
• The North Carolina Tar Heels are 16 and 5 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog.
• The Miami Hurricanes are 3 and 13 ATS in their last 16 homes games versus a team with a winning record on the road.
• The Miami Hurricanes are 0-5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

The NCAA football line on these two teams in the sportsbook isn’t giving the Tar Heels enough credit.  After losing their first two games, both by the score of 24 to 30 to LSU and Georgia Tech, the Tar Heels have been on a roll. They’ve won 4 games in a row straight up and have covered ATS in all 4 games as well.

In fact, North Carolina’s NCAA football betting line record against the spread is 5 and 1 on the season.  Now, they face a Miami team that appears to have hit the wall.

Miami had been up and down all season, but now, after suffering a blow out loss to Florida State 17 to 45 as 5 ½ point dogs and failing to cover a 16-point spread against one of the worst teams in college football, the Duke Blue Devils in a 28 to 13 victory, the Hurricanes appear to just be down.

Their offense has sputtered in two straight games both against FSU and Duke, a team that allows on average 38 points per game.  Miami ‘s defense hasn’t been that great either this season.  The Hurricanes gave up 36 points to Ohio State earlier in the year and 45 points to Florida State in the blow out loss.  They even allowed the Dookies to put up 13 against them.

North Carolina’s D has been stellar since the loss to Georgia Tech.  The Tar Heels have allowed only one team, East Carolina, to score 17 points against them.  They’ve kept Rutgers to 13 points, Clemson to 16 and Virginia to 10.

Miami should be the favorite in this game, but they shouldn’t be a 6 ½ point NCAA football line favorite.  They should be around a 3 ½ to 4-point NCAA football line favorite at the most.

North Carolina is on a roll while Miami appears to be on the downswing.  The ‘Canes looked lethargic in their last game versus the Duke Blue Devils.  I don’t see them pulling out a victory over the Tar Heels by more than 3 points.
