NCAA Football Line – Zips and Flashes Battle for Ohio

October 9, 2010

“It’s like USC-UCLA, North Carolina-Duke!” Akron Head Coach Rob Ianello exclaims about this neighborhood rivalry in Ohio, but surprisingly the NCAA Football betting Line stands pat.

Akron travels down the street three blocks and takes a right to battle Kent State for Northeast Ohio ownership.

Akron Zips (0-5) at Kent State Golden Flashes (1-3) – Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 ET

Dix Stadium (29,287) – Kent, Ohio

NCAA Football betting Line:

Akron Zips (1-4 ATS) +17 (ML +600)

Kent State Golden Flashes (2-2 ATS) -17 (ML -800)

Over/Under Game Total – 47

Akron lost 50-14 at home last week against Northern Illinois, but all that could be forgotten if they take down their local enemy Kent State and covered the NCAA Football Line for once. They have a 10 game road losing streak they’re looking to end against Duke…I mean Kent State.

The Zips are still learning and adapting to the change to a pro type offense.  They better learn quickly if they want to take down the Golden Flashes of (Clark) Kent State.

Quarterback Patrick Nicely is going to need more time if they expect to generate any passing offense. If Akron’s offensive line can open up some running lanes to establish the running game, they have a chance to use the rivalry motivation for some good and call it Nicely Done.

This Zipper team is hurting for somebody on the offense to become more of a playmaker. I’m just not sure they have someone on the team that would actually qualify or take the job.

This team is ranked 113th in overall offense and 108th in overall defense. On paper, this could be the WORST team in the FBS. Without the paper, they’re probably very fine students.

Kent State has held teams to an average of 59 rushing yards a game which leads the nation in rushing defense. They also give up 21.8 points per game which means opponents average .37 points for every rushing yard gained. Gain 10 yards rushing and that’s 3.7 points already. It’s not totally scientific, but it is interesting.

The Golden Flashes offense is almost as bad as the Zips’. They are ranked 111th in total offense nationally, and this could possibly be a matchup of two of the worst offenses ever on one playing field. Get ready Mildred! This is going to be WAAAY better than those 19 year old Wheel of Fortune reruns.

Running Back Jacquise Terry had a fantastic week for this offense with 2 touchdowns and 86 yards. I would guess the entire team doesn’t do that most games.

Here’s an exciting fact in this already sensational game: When the Golden Flashes host the Zips this Saturday, it will end the nation’s longest streak of something amazing. It will be 36 days between home games. OH YEAH!! Can you believe it? Let’s see an NCAA Football Line on something fun like that.

Does anyone else feel like they’re at a State Fair?

If there is one NCAA Football Line worth firing on, it would be to bet against both of these teams.
