Colorado: +12 ½
Missouri: -12 ½
The Tigers enter this game 4-0, and it’s behind the big arm of quarterback Blaine Gabbert, and pass catching ability of wide receiver T.J. Moe.
On the season, Gabbert is putting up monster numbers in Coach Gary Pinkel’s spread attack, to the tune of over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns in four games.
His favorite target is Moe, who’s already got 37 catches on the season, ranking him sixth in the country, a number that’s even more impressive considering he’s played one less game than his competitors. However, for all the talk about this high-powered offense, Gabbert needs to be more careful with the ball.
He’s already thrown three interceptions on the season.
On the opposite side of things are the Colorado Buffaloes, who are 3-1 and coming off maybe their most impressive win of 2010. With the way they’re playing, there’s no doubt that many bettors see them as a great NCAA Football Line pick.
The Buffaloes hosted the mighty Georgia Bulldogs of the SEC last weekend, and shocked them at Folsom Field, the final score 29-27. In that game running back Rodney Stewart gashed the Georgia defense for big gain after big gain, finishing with 149 yards on the ground, his second straight 100+ yards game.
With Stewart on the ground, and Tyler Hansen under center, the Buffaloes are now 3-1 and looking for their first conference win. But should they be your NCAA Football Line pick? Absolutely.
Colorado has proven to be a surprisingly balanced offense, and while Hansen will never be mistaken for an elite Big XII quarterback, he is a major improvement over what the Buffaloes have had these last few years.
He’s completing just under 64 percent of his passes, and although he has thrown five interceptions on the season, that number is a bit misleading, considering three came in one game. He’s thrown just one in his last two outings.
Which brings up back to Missouri. As good as this offense is, the defense is still a work in progress. Sure the numbers look good, but based on the competition, we still don’t know much about them. Their run defense in specific, ranks just 59th in the country, giving up 146 yards a game. It doesn’t seem likely that they’ll be able to slow down Stewart.
In the end, Missouri’s offense may be more dynamic, but their defense is just as questionable. Giving 12 ½ points seems like too much. Make Colorado your NCAA Football Line pick.
