NCAA Championship Game 2010 Prop Betting

August 1, 2010

Sportsbook bettors are well aware that for the NCAA title game, you can bet any number of propositions. We think there is some value in a few of them. So digest this, and sit back to watch the Duke Blue Devils take on the Butler Bulldogs for all the marbles.

GAME PROPS

Duke Blue Devils (34-5 SU, 23-14-1 ATS) vs. Butler Bulldogs (33-4 SU, 17-20 ATS)

National Championship Game @ Indianapolis
Monday, April 5 – 9:15 PM ET

FIRST TO SCORE

  • Duke -130
  • Butler Even

Wow – what a proposition to ponder. Who is going to score first in this game? I don’t really know if this is one of those where there is a lot of science to rely on. Come on, folks, you’ve got to take the "underdog" here. You think there’s really any justification to lay a price on who will score first? BUTLER: EVEN

FIRST TO SCORE 10 POINTS

  • Duke -145
  • Butler +115

Again, this is one of those "toss-ups" where you’re getting a good price. Of course, since I like Butler in the game, I would lean toward the Bulldogs very strongly anyway. BUTLER +115

FIRST TO SCORE 20 POINTS

  • Duke -165
  • Butler +135

And you’re telling me the price just got even better? BUTLER +135

DOUBLE RESULT

  • Butler / Butler +450
  • Tie / Butler +3000
  • Duke / Butler +750
  • Butler / Duke +450
  • Tie / Duke +1500
  • Duke / Duke -180

The "double result" means who will lead at the end of the first half, and who will lead at the end of the game. Our selection in the game itself was for Butler to win the game straight-up. Frankly, I don’t see any reason why this defensively-potent team couldn’t be leading at the end of the first half as well. That creates a nice price, and exactly what we are looking for, which is value. BUTLER/BUTLER +450

WINNING MARGIN

  • Butler to win by 1-2 pts +1000
  • Butler to win by 3-6 pts +650
  • Butler to win by 7-9 pts +1500
  • Butler to win by 10-13 pts +1800
  • Butler to win by 14-16 pts +3500
  • Butler to win by 17-20 pts +4500
  • Butler to win by 21 or more pts +5500
  • Duke to win by 1-2 pts +800
  • Duke to win by 3-6 pts +375
  • Duke to win by 7-9 pts +500
  • Duke to win by 10-13 pts +400
  • Duke to win by 14-16 pts +750
  • Duke to win by 17-20 pts +750
  • Duke to win by 21 or more pts +500

You see, this is one of those props where, if you liked the underdog Butler Bulldogs, you could find yourself in a real position of value. Sure, we would like to say that Butler could win this by 21 or more points, because that price is 55/1. But the Bulldogs could be right there at the end to pull it out by a point or two. I’m expecting it could be that kind of game, and look at the price. BUTLER BY 1-2 POINTS +1000

TO SCORE FIRST 3-POINTER

  • Gordon Hayward +400
  • Jon Scheyer +200
  • Kyle Singler +200
  • Nolan Smith +250
  • Shelvin Mack +250
  • Willie Veasley +400

I’m not sure that any particular "forecast" can be made on this prop, but I would concede that it could be a Duke player. So who is better to play then the guy who gives us the best price on the Duke side: none other than Nolan Smith, who could get shut out, perhaps, but who also has the potential to fill it up. SMITH +250
