NCAA Betting Lines – #2 KU, #24 Illinois, Vandy vs. #23 Florida

February 1, 2011

The #2 Kansas Jayhawks step onto the hardwood to battle Texas Tech as massive college basketball betting odds favorites. KU is close to a 13 ½ point favorite to put a beat down on the Red Raiders on Tuesday night.

In other college hoops Top 25 action #24 Illinois hosts giant-killer Penn State and Vandy battles #23 Florida in an important SEC matchup. Check out a preview of all 3 games below!

#2 Kansas Jayhawks (20-1) at Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-11)

Where: United Spirit Arena, Lubbock, Texas

When: 9:00 pm EST

College Basketball Betting Odds: Texas Tech +13 ½

Analysis: Yes, Rock Chalk is a better team than Texas Tech but there are some seriously strong trends suggesting that the Jayhawks might not be capable of covering the NCAA betting line on this game. 13 ½ is nothing to sneeze at and KU is only 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games versus the spread.

The Jayhawks are also 1 and 4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Lubbock. The Red Raiders horrible 11 and 11 straight up record might blind some gamblers to the fact that they’ve won 3 in a row straight up, including beating Nebraska, Iowa State on the road, and Oklahoma State in overtime. I’ve got to take the points in this contest.

Penn State Nittany Lions (12-8) at #24 Illinois Illini (14-7)

Where: Assembly-Hall Illinois, Champaign, Illinois

When: 9:00 pm EST

College Basketball Betting Odds: Penn State +8

Analysis: The basketball odds makers are getting close to what they want with this betting line. There’s only an 8% difference between those favoring the Nittany Lions and those favoring the Illini in this contest. 54% are going for Penn State and 46% are going for the Illini.

I’m in the NIttany Lions corner because Illinois has lost 4 out of their last 5 straight up. The Illini is also 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 games. Is Illinois even as good of a squad as the Penn State Nittany Lions? I’m not so sure anymore. Penn State is 12-3-2 ATS in the last 17 games between these two. That’s an awfully powerful trend, don’t you think?

Vanderbilt Commodores (15-5) at #23 Florida Gators (16-5)

Where: Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, Florida

When: 9:00 pm EST

College Basketball Betting Odds: Over 139

Analysis: The online sports betting spread doesn’t give an edge to either team in this contest. Yes, 60% of gamblers are all over the Gators to cover, but Florida is only 2 and 7 ATS at home. The Commodores are 2-2-1 against the spread on the road. I prefer to bet over the total in this game.

Vandy averages 78.8 points per and has scored 84, 89, 81 and 78 points in their last 4 games. The Florida Gators average 71.4 points per game but will play their opponents style in order to win like when they took down Tennessee 81 to 75 and Georgia 104 to 91. I’m backing the over in this key SEC game on Feb. 1st.
