NCAA Basketball Betting – Games to Bet on this Weekend?

February 1, 2011

With all of this weekend’s attention focused on the Super Bowl, it’s easy to forget that Saturday and Sunday are full of some exciting NCAA Hoops Betting.

Here are a handful of games to keep your eyes on.

North Carolina State Wolfpack at No. 5 Duke Blue Devils

Saturday, February 5: 6:00 p.m. ESPN

This weekend’s college basketball betting starts down on Tobacco Road, where a pair of old rivals – North Carolina State and Duke- will get together here.

For Duke, the Blue Devils are coming off an embarrassing effort last weekend at St. John’s where everything that could go wrong did in an ugly 93-78 loss. The telling stat in that game came from the three-point line, where a usually steady Blue Devils club hit just 5 of 26 from downtown.

While the Blue Devils may still be licking their wounds, they get a break this weekend when taking on a North Carolina State squad that’s just 2-5 in conference play. Truthfully, at home, we just can’t see the Blue Devils losing here.

Duke is a flawed team, but fortunately for bettors of the Blue Devils, those flaws won’t show up here. They’ll cruise to an NCAA Hoops Betting victory.

No. 11 Kentucky Wildcats at No. 23 Florida Gators

Saturday, February 5: 9:00 p.m. ESPN

Next up on the docket is a late Saturday showdown in the Swamp. With Kentucky just a half a game back in the loss column to Florida in the SEC East, this game is huge for each program.

And even on the road, we expect Kentucky to get the win here. After an ugly loss to Alabama two weeks ago, the Wildcats seem to be hitting their stride. The key may be guard Brandon Knight, who is averaging 17 points a game, and has scored in double figures in every conference game so far this year. Florida has no one on their roster who can guard him.

The Gators may be at home, and may be more experienced, but it’s the Wildcats who are the more skilled club. Talent will win out Saturday night in the Swamp.

No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 20 Minnesota Golden Gophers

Sunday, February 6: 2:00 p.m. ESPN

Finally, before you get your NFL Betting fix in on Sunday, finish up the weekend basketball betting slate with the No. 1 team in the country. Ohio State travels to Minnesota, hoping to avoid their first loss of the season.

But don’t sleep on the Gophers. Minnesota has the one thing that can neutralize this Ohio State offense, mainly size and skill down low. Trevor Mbakwe, Colton Iverson and Ralph Sampson III are all at least 6’8 and could cause trouble for 6’9 Ohio State All-American candidate Jared Sullinger.

Which is exactly what we expect to happen Sunday. Remember, the first matchup between these two teams was one of Ohio State’s worst, as the Buckeyes shot just 39 percent from the field, and had to hold on for dear life in a 67-64 final. Well in the second matchup- this time in Minneapolis- we expect the Golden Gophers to take care of unfinished business, and steal a win against the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

So now matter how you feel about Super Bowl XLV, remember, the biggest upset of the afternoon will come in the NCAA Hoops Betting, when Minnesota takes down Ohio State.
