NCAA Basketball Betting – Texas Longhorns Visit Pesky Nebraska Cornhuskers

February 19, 2011

The third ranked Texas Longhorns have steadily risen to the cream of the crop alongside Ohio State and Kansas, and with an 11-game winning streak in hand they’ll visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers in NCAA basketball betting. Those of us that have been riding the Longhorns lately have been reaping the rewards because the oddsmakers were discouraged by a lack of early success. Now that everything is clicking, is Texas worth riding out?

That 11 game winning streak has been matched by a 9-2 ATS record.

Both losses against the number have come recently, but they were also indecent lines. Texas defeated Texas Tech 76-60, but failed to cover a -20.0 point line that was simply a bit overblown.

When hosting Baylor, the oddsmakers underestimated Perry Jones, and Texas failed to cover a -11.0 point line with a 69-60 victory.

Texas has generally had trouble covering against Nebraska. They’ve dominated the series, and are 8-1 SU in their last 9 meetings, but Nebraska is also 6-3 ATS during those game. None of that should negate the fact that Texas has been the best bet in NCAA basketball betting for pretty much the entire season. Their record of 16-4 ATS this season is very hard to beat.

#3 Texas Longhorns (23-3) vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (17-8)

NCAA Basketball Betting Trends:

• Texas is 5-0 SU in their last 5 road games

• Texas is 4-2 SU in last 6 games on the road in Nebraska

• Nebraska is 1-8 SU in last 9 games against Texas

• Nebraska is 2-2 ATS in last 4 games at home against Texas

To their credit, Nebraska is still 14-1 SU in their last 15 home games, but that loss came against lowly Davidson at the start of this season. The Huskers have climbed to a respectable 17-8 SU and 9-8 ATS record this season but we should keep things in perspective. Lance Jeter is their leading scorer, and he is putting up just 11.0 points per game. In fact, Nebraska is one of the worst home scoring teams, averaging just 69.8 points per game on their home court.

It doesn’t make matters that much easier when you consider that Texas has become an absolute juggernaut on the road, with a better appreciation for team defense. The Longhorns allow just 59.3 points against per game away from home, which is a big reason why they have such great value in NCAA basketball online betting. Texas has an 8-1 ATS record when travelling this year.

That coveted number-one ranking in the country is almost invaluable. With Kansas falling to KSU earlier this week, the door is open for Ohio State to reclaim it, or for Texas to shift up as the dominant team in the country. For the past six weeks, they’ve been unstoppable, and Nebraska won’t be able to stand in their way, no matter how large this NCAA basketball betting line is.

Ride that Texas money train, baby.
