NBA’s Best – Portland Trailblazers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
March 19, 2009
The Portland Trailblazers travel to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers. The Cavs have the best record in professional basketball right now at 54 and 13 after the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Philadelphia 76’ers the other night. Cleveland also has one of the best records against the spread at 42 and 25. Their record ATS at home is 23 and 8. They’ve only lost one game straight-up at home this season.
The Trailblazers, like so many teams in the Western Conference, have played well this year. Their record is 43 and 25 straight-up. Their record against the spread is 34 and 33. Their ATS record on the road is 14 and 20.
Here is the BetOnline betting line in this game.
Portland Trailblazers +9 ½ -110 +450 O 185 -110
Cleveland Cavaliers -9 ½ -110 -600 U 185 -110
Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.
The Portland Trailblazers are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog on the road.
The Under is 4 and 1 in the Portland Trailblazers last 5 games on the road.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 games as the favorite.
The Under is 36 and 17 in the Cleveland Cavaliers last 53 games after a day of rest.
I’m not sure if I like the 9 ½ point spread. Cleveland could definitely cover, they have 23 times at home this year, but the Trailblazers are a good enough team to at least keep this game within 6 to 8 points. The extra point and a half scares me. So, I’ll be looking elsewhere in this game.
Where? To the under, of course!
The 185 doesn’t seem like a lot of points at all, but the Blazers have scored 80, 103 and 95 in their last three games. That was against Atlanta, Memphis and Indiana.
The Cavaliers have scored 126, 98 and 97 in their last three games but that was against Sacramento, New York and Orlando.
All three teams the Blazers played against are known for their lack of defense. All three teams the Cavs played against are known for their run and gun styles except for maybe Orlando but that game went under the total.
I see the Cavs keeping the Blazers to between 80 to 85 points in this game. Cleveland shouldn’t score more than 96 to 97 which means a total of 182 points is likely.
I’ll be betting the game between the Cavs and the Blazers to go under the total of 185.
