NBA Western Conference – Southwest Continues NBA Odds Spread Domination
December 6, 2010
Three teams from the NBA Southwest are in the NBA Western Conference Top 5 when it comes to covering the NBA betting odds in the sportsbook. Those 3 teams, the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Hornets are 3 of the best teams in the NBA. The Spurs are actually the best team in the NBA with an incredible 17 and 3 straight up record.
There are no real surprises in the Bottom 5 although it’s obvious that the odds makers are onto the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder was one of the best teams in the NBA against the spread last season. This season they’re one of the worst ATS so far.

Let’s get to the NBA Western Conference Top 5 and Bottom 5!
NBA Western Conference Top 5
- Utah Jazz 15-6 (13-7-1 ATS) – - Doubting the Jazz hasn’t been profitable for basketball betting fans so far this season. Utah has gone 8 and 2 ATS in their last 10 games. They did, however, lose their last game straight up to Dallas, 81 to 93 as -4 point favorites in the NBA sportsbook.
- Dallas Mavericks 16-4 (12-6-2 ATS) – - Dallas’ awesome undefeated record against the spread on the road finally ended when they failed to beat the Sacramento Kings by more than 7 points in a 105 to 103 victory. The Mavs are only 4-5-2 against the spread at home this season. So, basketball handicappers should take a moment to decide if they really want to back Dallas in their next 5 games, all at home.
- San Antonio Spurs 17-3 (12-7-1ATS) – - San Antonio has had their moments, like failing straight up to the Clippers 85 to 90 as -7 point road faves in the pro basketball betting sportsbook and then not covering versus Minnesota in a 107 to 101 victory, but they’re easily the most consistent team, straight up at least, in the NBA. The 109 to 84 butt whipping they put on New Orleans as only -6 ½ point favorites in their last was a thing of beauty.
- New Orleans Hornets 13-7 (10-9-1 ATS) – - The Hornets are still in the Top 5 but things are definitely not looking good for these guys. They’ve gone 2 and 8 ATS in their last 10 games. What’s worse is that they’ve gone 4 and 6 straight up in their last 10 games including losing to New York, Oklahoma City and the Los Angeles Clippers in 3 out of the 6 losses.
- Houston Rockets 7-13 (10-10 ATS) – - The Rockets are starting to make some noise in the NBA betting odds sportsbook. They’ve gone 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games including going 3 and 0 ATS and 2 and 1 straight up in their last 3 games. The straight up victory over the Los Angeles Lakers 109 to 99 as 5 ½ point home dogs on Dec. 1st was sweet.
NBA Western Conference Bottom 5
- Sacramento Kings 4-14 (5-13 ATS) – - Tyreke Evans and Demarcus Cousins are good players but the Kings have nobody around those two. The Kings have gone 1 and 9 straight up and 3 and 7 against the spread in their last 10 games.
- Denver Nuggets 13-6 (6-11-2 ATS) – - How odd is this? The Nuggets are 8 and 2 straight up in their last 10 games but only 2-7-1 against the sports betting book in their last 10 games. The odds makers are definitely having trouble figuring out what to set the betting line in Denver games.
- Oklahoma City Thunder 14-7 (9-12 ATS) – - The Thunder should be back on track with Kevin Durant in the fold again, but 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 is not the way to instill confidence into NBA handicappers. The Thunder faces a three game road stretch against Chicago, Minnesota and New Orleans starting on Dec. 6th.
- Minnesota Timberwolves 5-15 (9-11 ATS) – - Minnesota has 2 victories in their last 10 games, a win against the L.A. Clippers 113 to 111 and a victory over Cleveland 129 to 95. The T’Wolves are ranked 9th in the NBA in scoring with 101.7 points per game. Too bad they give up 108.7 per contest. They’re only 9 and 11 overall against the odds in the bet on NBA sportsbook, however, and are 2 and 0 ATS in their last 2 games.
- L.A. Clippers 4-17 (10-11 ATS) – - Blake Griffin is averaging 20.6 points and 11.8 boards per game and the Clippers have gone 5 and 2 ATS in their last 7 games. That’s really not too bad.
