NBA Weekend’s Best Bets – Battle of Texas and Utah in Orlando

March 15, 2009

With college hoops gearing up for March Madness, most bettors might shy away from the NBA this weekend.

That would be a mistake since NBA betting can be very profitable for NBA betting fans. There is usually two or three fantastic games every weekend for gamblers to try their hands at and we have picked out the two best.

Four of the top teams in the NBA Power Rankings are in action against each other.

Let’s take a look at the best games on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s Best Bet

San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets

Analysis: The Spurs were just throttled by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night by 7 points as 3 point favorites at home. They travel to Houston on Saturday to take on the Rockets whom they last faced in November of 2008. San Antonio wasn’t doing very well back then so losing by 19 points to the Rockets in that game doesn’t mean much. For Houston, the loss to L.A. in their last game wasn’t that bad since they had won three games in a row before that. The victory over Denver on the road as 4 point underdogs says that Houston is a definite team to watch in the Western Conference. The Rockets’ ATS record at home isn’t all that great at 15-18-1 but their starting five should be able to play with San Antonio. I like Houston to bounce back from their loss to L.A. as a slight favorite in this game.

Pick: Houston Rockets to cover the spread at -4 or less.

Sunday’s Best Bet

Utah Jazz vs. Orlando Magic

Analysis: The Jazz finally lost a game straight-up on Wednesday when they were beat by the Atlanta Hawks as 1 ½ point favorites on the road. Utah had been on a 12 game winning streak. The Jazz now go back to back in away games when taking on Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat on Saturday and then Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic on Sunday. Facing Wade and Howard back to back could be a daunting task for the Jazz, but this team is ultra-resilient and a victory over both Miami and Orlando could definitely happen. The Jazz have the frontcourt to take on Howard and the Magic and there’s no question that point-guard Deron Williams should outplay Rafer Alston. For the Magic, their last victory over the Chicago Bulls came on the heels of a loss to Detroit. They play Washington on Friday night and then go home to rest on Saturday before taking on the Jazz on Sunday. The Magic should be set to play their best, but Utah looks tough in this. I see the Jazz struggling versus Wade and the Heat on Saturday but then doing extremely well versus the Magic on Sunday.

Pick: Utah Jazz to beat a spread of +3 or more in the sportsbook.
