NBA Weekend Parlay – The King in Action and a Texas Showdown
March 20, 2009
NBA Weekend: Atlanta vs. Cleveland on Saturday and Houston vs. San Antonio on Sunday.
Even though the NCAA Tournament is in full swing after a fantastic Thursday of action, the NBA isn’t taking a back seat to anyone this weekend.
Some excellent games are on the NBA schedule on both Saturday and Sunday. NBA betting fans should take a look at all of the games on both days to determine where their gambling dollars should go.
Let’s take a look at two key NBA games this weekend.
Best NBA Bet on Saturday
Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Analysis: The Cavs beat the Portland Trailblazers at home on Thursday night after LeBron James took control in overtime. The Cavs didn’t cover the spread, since they were favored by 10 ½ in that game, but they did get the victory. The Cavs rest on Friday before taking on the Hawks on Saturday. Can Cleveland bounce back and cover against the spread on Saturday? The Cavs have gone 0 and 4 ATS in their last 4 games. Cleveland is still ranked #1 in the NBA Power Rankings, but they haven’t been all that good lately ATS.
The Hawks, by contrast, have been a covering machine lately going 7 and 0 ATS in their last 7 games. They too get to rest on Friday before taking on the Cavs on Saturday.
So, it’s the hot team, Atlanta, against the cold team against the spread, Cleveland. Who wins out? I don’t think it matters. The bet in this game will be on the under. I see the odds makers setting the total at around 182 or so. If that’s the case, I love the under. The last time these two teams met, it ended up 88 to 87 in favor of Cleveland. That’s only 175 points. I see a similar thing happening on Saturday.
Pick: Under the total in the sportsbook.
Best NBA Bet on Sunday
Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs
Analysis: This is a key game for both teams as the Spurs and Rockets play in the same division. San Antonio has a Friday night game against the Boston Celtics that they should win without the services of Tim Duncan because of Boston’s injury issues, before resting on Saturday and then taking on the Rockets at home.
Houston takes on the Minnesota T’Wolves on Friday night before resting on Saturday and battling the Spurs on the road. Houston has been decent lately. They failed to cover ATS versus the Detroit Pistons in their last game but two games ago they beat New Orleans on the road by 11 points. Houston should be ready for the Spurs on Sunday.
This game is going to be the morning ABC showcase game which means the Spurs should be fired up to take down their rivals. I see them doing that. San Antonio is just a tough team at home and they are extra tough when playing on television against a rival like Houston.
The Spurs should cover against a decent sized spread.
Pick: San Antonio Spurs to cover up to -8 in the sportsbook.
