NBA Weekend Analysis – Best Line Bets
January 9, 2009
Part of the job of a successful sports betting fan is to forecast which games during the weekend will provide the best online wagering opportunities.
The BetOnline online sportsbook, like most sportsbooks in the world, doesn’t release some of the online betting odds for NBA basketball games until the morning of the game.
NBA betting fans need to keep on their toes, really understand which teams are doing well and which are not, in order to correctly assess the merits of those betting options.
By the time the line is set BetOnline online sportsbook betting fans should already have a good idea of what online betting odds they are willing to take on any given team in any given game.
Let’s get to this weekend’s NBA betting action!
Best NBA Betting Online Option for Saturday
Detroit Pistons vs. Utah Jazz
Tip-off: 9:00 pm est.
Analysis – - Utah is winning without Carlos Boozer. They’re also winning without Derron Williams having to put up tons of points every game. In their last game, Paul Milsap scored 27 while Mhemut Okur scored 20. As always the Jazz are also excellent at home against the BetOnline online betting spread. They’ve gone 11 and 7 so far this season. That makes the Jazz a very tough team for Detroit to beat either straight-up or against the spread in this game.
But, amazingly, the Pistons have found a way to turn Allen Iverson back into a point-guard. In their last game against the Portland Trailblazers, they won against the spread by losing by only a single point. That’s pretty good. What’s even better is that even though A.I. leads the Pistons in average points at 18.1, he also leads the team in assists average at 5.7. What’s even better than that is that Iverson has racked up 10 and 7 assists in his last two games. That means Iverson is buying into Joe Dumars’s concept of sharing the ball. If the Pistons do have an issue in this game it will be with Utah’s inside game. Detroit just doesn’t have the bodies to deal with Okur and Milsap, with Rasheed Wallace probable on both Friday and possibly Saturday. Oh, yes, the Pistons tackle the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. I have to go with Utah in this one, but I don’t feel comfortable giving up too many points. I’m going to say that the BetOnline online odds makers set the line around 3 to 4.5. That makes the Jazz a good online bet.
Pick: Utah Jazz to cover the BetOnline online betting spread if the spread falls between 3 to 4.5.
Best NBA Betting Online Options for Sunday
Orlando Magic vs. San Antonio Spurs
Tip-off: 8:30 pm est.
Analysis: Surprisingly, the San Antonio Spurs have always been a sort of basketball betting disappointment at home. Straight-up this team has always been very, very good, but against the spread they haven’t necessarily been very strong. They did end up covering the 13 point spread against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night but the Clips were without Baron Davis. The Spurs record against the spread at home isn’t all that fantastic at 8-11-1. This includes the victory over the Clippers. In Orlando, San Antonio faces a team that matches up very well with them. The Magic are now tied with the Boston Celtics for the second best record in the Eastern Conference and if any team is going to begin to lose with regularity it won’t be the Magic. Point-guard Jameer Nelson is getting better and better with each game and look at the how this team put up points in their last game: Nelson had 15, Rashard Lewis had 20, Hedo Turkoglu had 20, Dwight Howard had 23 and Courtney Lee had 11. That’s five starters in double-figures. Amazing. The Magic have a 12-5-1 record against the BetOnline online sportsbook betting spread in away games. That’s also amazing. I like the Spurs but this is the Magic’s game to lose. I’m saying that anything above even money means that the Magic are an excellent bet on the BetOnline online sportsbook money-line.
Pick: Orlando Magic to win straight-up in the BetOnline online sportsbook at NBA online betting odds of even money or higher.
Good Luck!
