NBA Weekend Action – East vs. West Showdowns
February 6, 2009
If you’re looking for the best games on the NBA betting schedule this weekend skip over Saturday and go right to Sunday. There are two dynamite East vs. West matchups on Sunday as Kobe and the Lakers battle LeBron and the Cavs, while the well-rested Spurs head to Boston to face the Celtics.
After the way both Kobe and LeBron torched the Knicks last week it’s the perfect time for the second battle this season between arguably the NBA’s two best players. Kobe took the first round versus LeBron last month when the Lakers easily rolled over the Cavaliers 105-88 as a 5-point favorite on the NBA odds.
The battle on the court between the two superstars was basically a draw in that game as Kobe registered 20 points, six rebounds, and 12 assists, while LeBron had 23 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Kobe’s Lakers came out on top because he received more help from his supporting cast. Pau Gasol led Los Angeles with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Andrew Bynum had 14 points and six boards. For Cleveland, Mo Williams only had 16 points and six rebounds, while Sasha Pavlovic added 12 points.
If history means anything Sunday’s game may lean more favorably toward the Cavaliers. Cleveland has won their last four games versus the Lakers at home and they covered the spread in three of those wins.
When the Spurs and Celtics meet up in Boston on Sunday San Antonio will be well rested, while the Celtics could be dog tired. San Antonio’s last game was Tuesday night, giving them four days off in between games. You can add on a few more days rest for the Spurs’ big guns as well because Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Michael Finley all sat out Tuesday’s game. Boston has a grueling schedule this week which sees them play four games in six days. The Celtics played in Philadelphia on Tuesday, journeyed home to face the Lakers on Thursday, go to New York on Friday, and head back home Sunday to play the Spurs.
This is the first game this season between the Spurs and Celtics after Boston won both matchups last season. Boston handled San Antonio 98-90 as a 2.5-point home underdog, and also edged out a 93-91 win as a 4.5-point road dog.
