NBA Wednesday Parlay – Suns vs. Pacers and T-Wolves vs. Rockets

January 14, 2010

Tip-off: Phoenix at 7:00 pm EST and Houston at 8:30 pm EST

The Phoenix Suns travel to Indiana as road favorites on Wednesday night looking to improve on a 24 and 14 record. The Suns have cooled off since their blistering November but are still one of the elite teams in the NBA.

Indiana? Not so much. The Pacers are 12 and 25 and could have trouble keeping Phoenix’s scorers under control.

In the night’s other terrific game on which to wager in the NBA sportsbook, the Houston Rockets host the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Phoenix Suns vs. Indiana Pacers

Tip-off: 7:00 pm EST

NBA Basketball Odds: Phoenix -3 ½, Total 226 ½

Analysis: There are some powerful trends in the Suns favor in this game. Phoenix is 16 and 6 ATS in their last 22 games following an against the spread loss. Phoenix is also 7 and 2 against the spread in their last 9 games as a favorite of a ½ to 4 ½ points.

The trends against Indiana point to a Phoenix victory ATS. The Pacers are 2 and 10 against the spread in their last 12 games as a home underdog. Indiana is also 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win.

Indiana averages only 98.2 points a game. That’s not a big enough average for me to consider a wager, either way, on the total. Instead, I’ll be betting on Phoenix to cover the spread in this game.

NBA Basketball Picks: Phoenix Suns at -3 ½

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Houston Rockets

Tip-off: 8:30 pm EST

NBA Odds: Houston -9 ½, Total 203 ½

Analysis: The Minnesota Timberwolves are 1 and 6 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS victory, but they are also 11 and 5 against the spread in their last 16 games following a straight-up loss.

That’s a good trend but does it counter balance the trends favoring Houston in this game like the fact that the Rockets are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games as the favorite or the fact that they are 5 and 0 ATS in their last 5 games as the favorite at home.

This game is more about matchups than anything else. The T’Wolves just don’t matchup well with Houston at all as nobody on Minnesota’s team can handle Houston guards Trevor Ariza and Aaron Brooks and forward Luis Scola.

Expect the Rockets to jump out to a big lead in the 2nd quarter in this one and coast to a victory. The Rockets 11 and 4 ATS record at home helps to make my decision easy.

Pick: Houston Rockets -9 ½
