NBA Sunday – Magic, Celtics, Knicks Figure as NBA Odds Favorites
March 14, 2011
Before getting down and dirty on their NCAA Tournament brackets this Sunday, March 13, basketball betting handicappers should log onto the sports book and wager a few bucks on three of the games going on in the NBA.
On Sunday, the Orlando Magic takes on the Phoenix Suns, the Boston Celtics battle the Milwaukee Bucks, and the New York Knicks host the Indian Pacers. Keep reading for previews of all 3 games below.
March 13 – NBA Games
** Records and stats not counting Friday and Saturday games.
Orlando Magic (41-24) at Phoenix Suns (33-30)
Where: U.S. Airways Center, Phoenix, Arizona
When: 3:30 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Phoenix +4 ½
Analysis: The Magic might even be a bigger favorite than 4 ½ points in the online sportsbook in this contest on Sunday. Heck, Orlando might be a +6 ½ point betting favorite. How crazy is that?
The truth is that Orlando could, if they’re on their game, just punish the Suns nasty like on March 13, but Phoenix has been in this odd straight up winning pattern where they win a game and then lose a game and then win a game. It’s happened in the last 5 Suns’ games. Phoenix is coming up to a winning game on Sunday since they don’t play on either Friday or Saturday. Sometimes a simple voodoo like up and down penny stock pattern is just as good as any when handicapping hoops. I’ll go with Phoenix.
Milwaukee Bucks (25-38) at Boston Celtics (46-16)
Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
When: 6:00 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Boston -8 ½
Analysis: The Celtics can be both a boon to the bankroll or the freakin’ tear in the bankroll sack that’s causing dollars to hit the ground. I mean, is there another team in the NBA that is as infuriatingly unpredictable when it comes to NBA online odds spreads as the Boston Celtics? I don’t think so. The Men in Green have gone 0 and 3 against the spread in their last 3 games before taking on Philadelphia on Friday night. I’ve got to get this in to my editor before then. So, I can’t take time to watch that game. Not that it matters. If Boston blows out the 76’ers on Friday night, then they could blow out Milwaukee on Sunday…or, they could lay an egg like they did when losing straight up to the L.A. Clippers 103 to 108 at home on March 9. So, here’s what you do.
You first think about whether or not Boston is really happy about having to play on a day when they could be filling out their March Madness brackets. Then, you decide if the NBA odds are fair or not. Bet accordingly.
Indiana Pacers (27-37) at New York Knicks (34-30)
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
When: 9:00 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: New York -8 ½
Analysis: I’ve got to believe that the Knicks can outscore the high-scoring Indiana Pacers in this game on March 13. NYK is still figuring things out, they were atrocious in the 109 to 127 loss to Dallas in their last, but you’ve got to believe that their talent is just too much for Indiana. The NBA online betting total might end up at a number where gamblers could wager on it, but if it doesn’t, hoops handicappers should just back the Knicks to rout the Pacers. NYK can play defense. More often than not, Indiana doesn’t play defense. The Pacers are allowing 100.7 points per game and are also ranked twenty-fifth in defensive rebounding. I’m with the Knicks.
