NBA Sunday – Bet on NBA Before the Super Bowl

February 7, 2011

Sports betting handicappers should get in on hoops wagering action this Sunday, February 6th, before settling in and watching and wagering on Super Bowl XLV.

The NBA has four games slated for Sunday.  3 of the games, Indiana vs. New Jersey doesn’t really count, should garner plenty of attention from NBA fans.  Check out a preview of all 3 games below.

Feb. 6th– NBA Games

**Not counting Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night records and stats

Philadelphia 76’ers (22-26) at New York Knicks (25-23)

Where:  Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
When:  12:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds:  Philadelphia +5 ½

Analysis:  Basketball betting fans, for some odd reason, seem to be in love with the New York Knicks.  The Knicks are a good team, but Philadelphia has been hot.  The 76’ers have gone 7 and 8 against the spread going into their Friday night game versus the Knicks.  Philly is a -3 ½ point favorite in that contest but 71% of basketball handicappers so far are favoring the Knicks.  Because of that, I’m assuming that NYK will be at least a 5 ½ point favorite on Sunday no matter what happens on Friday night.  I believe that Philadelphia beats the Knicks on Friday night and Sunday straight up, but I’ll take the points on Feb. 6th.

L.A. Clippers (19-29) at Miami Heat (34-14)

Where:  American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida
When:  12:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds:  Miami -9 ½

Analysis:  The Clippers can be an exciting team when Blake Griffin is going off, but he might not get a chance to go off versus the Miami Heat on Sunday.  The Heat remembers what happened on January 12th.  On that day, as -7 point NBA line road faves, the Clippers ended Miami’s winning streak by upsetting the Heat 111 to 105.  The Heat tried to play LAC’s game, running up and down and shooting at will, but will be much more defensive minded come Sunday.  I see Miami giving the young Clippers a lesson with at least a 10 point victory.  Blake will get his but so will Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh for the Heat.

Orlando Magic (31-18) at Boston Celtics (37-11)

Where:  TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
When:  2:30 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds:  Boston -3 ½

Analysis:  Orlando is still one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, but they’ve come undone in a few games lately.  As -1 ½ point road basketball betting faves versus Chicago and Memphis, the Magic lost straight up in both games.  Chicago beat Orlando 99 to 90 and Memphis beat Orlando 100 to 97.  Now, Superman’s squad takes on the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics, who beat Orlando 109 to 106 the last time the two teams faced each other.  Boston could make the margin of defeat worse for the Magic on Sunday because the Celtics shot only 30% from behind the 3-point line in that last meeting.  They should do much better than that on Sunday.
