NBA Sports Betting – Teams that go UNDER the Total
February 5, 2009
The NBA sports betting season is in full swing, and the following teams have been red hot for NBA ‘Under’ bettors at BetOnline Sportsbook throughout the last week of action:
(RANK) (TEAM) (SU RECORD) (O/U RECORD) (O/U RECORD L/5 +$$)
1) New Jersey Nets (22-27) (23-26 O/U) (1-4 O/U L/5 +$290): The Nets have been a decent $$$-maker for ‘under’ bettors this NBA betting season, and that trend continued last week where four of the Nets five games combined to go under the closing ‘total.’ Since Yi Jianlian and his 10 point per game average were relegated to the bench due to injury, the ‘under’ has gone 8-4 ATS. Until the Nets get another solid scorer to take his place in the paint, look for the Nets offense to struggle with both Devin Harris and Vince Carter carrying the nightly workload. With two of their next four against teams ranked in the top 10 in defense (Orlando, San Antonio); look for a couple more unders to cash for NBA bettors until the All Star break.
2) Golden State Warriors (15-34) (27-22 O/U) (1-4 O/U L/5 +$290): With Monta Ellis finally making his return back into the Warriors starting line-up last week, many thought Golden State would increase upon the league’s second best offensive unit that averaged over 106 points per game. That however was not the case as the Warriors surpassed their regular season average in just one of the five games they partook in last week. Maybe it has more to do with Ellis and the rest of the Warriors reaclimating themselves with one another, or maybe it had to do with them playing four teams whose defenses are ranked in the top 15. That said; with a full week of playing with one another now under their belts, look for the Warriors to flex their offensive muscles through the All Star break with five games slated to go against Phoenix (H/H), Utah, New York, and Portland.
3) Milwaukee Bucks (22-28) (28-24 O/U) (1-4 O/U L/5 +$290): First Michael Redd, and now Andrew Bogut! Head Coach Scott Skiles can’t catch a break right now, but that bodes well for ‘under’ bettors as the Bucks look destined to play to quite a few unders until those guys return to the starting line-up healthy. The Bucks boasted a below average offense with those guys in the line-up, and they’ll suffer even more with their combined average of 32+ PPG off the stat sheet for an undetermined amount of time. That will force the league’s 13th ranked defense that surrenders an average of 98+ points per game
To buckle down even more. Milwaukee only averaged 94.6 PPG in its five games last week, but only allowed its opposition an average of 97.6 PPG. Look for their offensive scoring output to continue to decline, but HC Skiles will get them to play even better on the defensive end of the court with his offensive unit ravaged by some major injuries. The tell tale sign that more unders are on the horizon for this club is the fact that they couldn’t surpass the 100-point plateau against the Indiana Pacers and their matador style defense last week…
And the rest…..
4) Cleveland Cavaliers (38-9) (21-26 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)
5) New Orleans Hornets (28-17) (19-25 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)
