NBA Sports Betting – Sixers Visit Wizards, Minus Brand

December 19, 2008

The good news for the Philadelphia 76ers (11-14 SU, 10-15 ATS, 7-16-2 O/U) is that they have won two straight games in he BetOnline Sportsbook. The bad news is that they will be without perennial all-star power forward Elton Brand for approximately one month.

The Washington Wizards (4-19 SU, 9-13 ATS, 10-11-1 O/U) have dropped four consecutive games, failing to cover the spread in three straight.

Tonight, the Eastern Conference foes will square off at Verizon Center with Philadelphia looking to remain perfect under interim head coach Tony DiLeo after winning both contests under their new leader since firing former head coach Maurice Cheeks on Saturday.

Brand scored a season-high 27 points to lead Philadelphia to a 104-89 win over Washington on Saturday, but lost Brand when he dislocated his right shoulder in the third quarter. The team announced on Thursday that Brand will be out for approximately one month.

Even without Brand, Philadelphia managed to beat the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, winning 93-88 as Louis Williams scored a game-high 25 points on 9-for-17 shooting and veteran point guard Andre Miller added 19 points.

The Wizards are coming off a dismal 88-74 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday and have been averaging just 87.3 points per game while shooting just 39.8 percent from the field during their four-game skid.

Washington got a team-high 16 points from newly acquired point guard Mike James, but just 14 points from Antawn Jamison on 5-for-18 shooting and just five points from Caron Butler in 35 minutes.

"I keep saying I’m grateful this is the Eastern Conference," Wizards guard Mike James said. "You can be 10 games under .500 and still be playing for the eighth (playoff) spot."

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Pick.

NBA Odds

Philadelphia 76ers pk -110

Washington Wizards pk -110

Over 191½ -110

Under 191½ -110

Analysis: I gave this pick some thought seeing as how Brand is out for Philadelphia and Washington will almost certainly want to extract some revenge for losing to Philly on Saturday while snapping their losing streak, but I just don’t see it happening as the beleaguered Wizards have a plethora of problems at the moment, including unfamiliarity.

NBA Free Picks: Sixers Pk/Over 191½ Total Points
